In a situation like this, there is often more to the story than we know. The "self imposed" life ban is mere speculation. No one knows how the league threatened him, what they offered him, or what they lured him with. The funny thing I dont care about this, and I am sure more than 80% of the fans of the league dont care.

Sure some players will cry foul because this was seedy. But a lot of seedy stuff goes on in the NFL. We all know players, bite scratch and grab other peoples balls in pileups where the ref cant see. You dont see fans crying about it (well they do but not for months and months) Point is people know the league is dirty. While this stuff may shock some for a while it wears off quick. It has already worn off for most.

I think every one is more upset with the replacement refs and could give a rats ass about Goodell and his napoleone complex.

Greg Williams told them this stuff a long time ago. This wasn't "new" information just 3 days ago...

Jonathan Vilma never play again. Scumbag. You don't put 10k bounties on players. Nobody is going to be hiring Greg Williams again.

Who cares. Some players made some bets on roughing up some players. I'm sure it goes on more than what you think. They're making it out more than what it is

But you do put 10k bounties on players. It depends on how you look at it. Every time an owner signs a players paycheck he has automatically put a bounty on opposing players. (pay checks for defensive players that is). The nfl is generally a violent league. Coaches want the most vicious hitters on their team, fans want to see those high impact hits on television. And guess what, the most hard hitting players, tend rip the rewards. They get more notoriety, their jersey sales go up, some even get commercials on tv, or get bigger contracts from other teams.

Another way you put "bounties" on players is through the play offs. If I am not mistaken the players are paid 20k for the winning team. If injuring the other teams qb or other big time player could result in that team advancing in the play offs then you have in effect put a bounty on a player...

A third way its done is mostly verbal from fans, coaches and players themselves. You see them shouting on tv "lets go rip these muthluvas head off" "knock his ass out" (i do remember one superbowl where they actually forgot to bleep out some very nasty curse words of a player hyping his team up to go "kill some motherf#$kers" or some shit along those lines.

Now if all this motivation does not qualify as a bounty, the actual act of promising a player 10k to do knock some one out is more or less useless. The player already has that incentive in so many other ways.

Or a better way of putting it, Is it Ok for a defensive player to knock out another player just for the "W" or notoriety or extra stipend for advancing in the play offs? In your mind what makes a bounty immoral?

All valid points. I was interested in it because he hasn't just alienated players, there would also be coaches and even owners who wouldn't want to be near this rat fukk.

I was just trying to understand why he thought it was his best option.

Quite frankly, the rest of it bores me.
