Say your friend owes you 12k to pay a bookie you placed bets through. Now your friend wont pay. What can you legally do to try and get the 12k off the friend?

What if the friend threatens to call the police saying he has e-mails/texts messages about you gambling with a bookie? Can you get in trouble?

Kill the "friend"

No someone who was in a similar situation...Never got a dime and there was nothing he could do about it.

Lesson learned, wasn't much a friend to begin with. Wouldn't hold up in court. You could make his life "hell", theraten him, but most likely you're going to take a hit. The dudes a stiff, onces a stiff, always a stiff.

without all the details, looks as if the friend, may be the bettor placing the bets for a "friend"

No , theres nothing that can be done. But the problem is , unless it was 1 bet for 10k that they thought he could pay , both the friend and the book should have put the stop sign up.

If this was a guy chasing 500$ bets and got down 3k and then started making 1k bets and got down 6k the friend shoulda said WHOA! ... And the book as well.

The only thing the guy can hope for is to explain to the stiff that he had to cover it and it ruined his life and hope the guy has enough of a heart to make some kind of payment plan. .... if it was a case of a youngster getting carried away he might pay it off over time , but if it was a true stiff theres no chance. ... (gotta be carefull who your friends are)

He should put an advert on Craigslist with the other guys phone number : IPhone 5, unwanted gift, $300, and renew it everyday.

He wont won't get his money but he may well give the guy a stomach ulcer.

The stiff is blackmailing the friend. I doubt the cops care about a few football bets, but may be interested in prosecuting the blackmail.

This story reminds me of the crack head who tried to file a police report for getting sold fake crack from a dealer. One question were all dying to know.. " Are you serious?"

Best to either eliminate the stiff or forget it and move on.

Only a stupid fuck would book bets for a "friend" in that amount.

Any amount you are not comfortable covering yourself should make sure guy betting posts up in full before placing the bet.

In other words there is no "legality" in this issue. the correct phrase would be "The Illegality of the issue"

Find someone to break his arm , for 2k. If he doesn't make good, break an arm and a leg for 4 k. Hopefully that compels him to pay, and you are only out 6 k yourself.

When someone asks you how much does it cost to get a degree in bookmaking, you can say, "I took one class: extending credit 101. It cost me $12,000. I failed the class but sure learned a lot"

Does the guy have anything of value, does he have a car, a house, anything he likes and doesn't want to lose? if he does you have a chance of getting some money, if not you are screwed. But legally, no, there's nothing you can do, gambling debts are almost always not enforceable.

You're best bet is to hire some "nice" guys to threaten him. Chance's are that would work, unless if he's one tough son of a bitch.
