I've been kicking this game around for weeks and still don't know who wins this game.
If Medlen starts, he's been solid as heck to say the least, but has no big game experience. I would think the Braves want Huddie on the mound for that kind of pressure. Does Carp go for the Cards? Will he be ready this soon for his "A Game"?
Would love to hear gambler's opinions on this game. Much appreciated.

Why would there be a need to play a payoff game? They're both in, as of now, via the Wildcard. That being said, my homer side says Birds all the way. They tend to play better ball against quality opponents and play down to the level of poor teams. Been doing it all season long.

The two wildcard teams play 1 game to see who continues in the playoffs, correct?

As a cards fan, medlin scares me more than the Giants/Reds/Nats in a 5/7 game set.

Correct. It's ridiculous, but correct. The extra slot is keeping more teams alive later into the season, but there should at least be a best of three I think for the WC Series.

Based on the current schedule, it looks like Lohse. Lynn will be on full rest. Garcia would be out of the pen as the main LOOGY I'm guessing. Carpenter/Wainwright are set to pitch the last 2 games of the regular season.

While it typically makes sense to not carry your entire staff for the 1 game playin, I could see a case being made where all 5 of the cards starters are available and ready to go. Wainwright/Lynn have very good bullpen histories, Carp is Carp, and Garcia is easily the best lefty to stifle the Braves bats, even if it's on the road.

You could also see Rosenthal/Miller starting the last two games of the regular season, but I doubt it. I'm guessing they'll want Carp/Wainwright pitching so they are on regular rest in the playoffs.

Post season rotation would probably be Carp/Wainwright, Garcia/Lynn, Wainwright/Carp, Loshe, Carp/Wainwright. There are a multitude of options everywhere with how deep the rotation is.

edit: and that's one of the reasons a 5/7 game series doesn't scare me. The cardinals hit Cueto/Baily/Arroyo well and Garcia owns them, and they also have a staff that matches up with the Nats with a bullpen that is once again rounding into form (plus the 1/2 additions from the rotation)

May the CArds choke on Dix! IE loving Braves tomahawks. I will be at the game. ONE GAME FOR THE SEASON. I don't care about big game experience. I'll take Kris Medlen over any pitcher in the National League.

Yeah, I think they have to save Carp/Wainwright for the one game playoff if they've already clinched. Gotta have your best guys ready for what could be the last 9 innings of the season.

Gonna be an interesting game without doubt. That's a ton of pressure for a young SP. Are you worried about performance anxiety for Medlen or Carp coming back for STL?

Wainwright is the #3 ATM behind both Lynn and Loshe imo. IDK about Carp.

Looks like it's gonna be Lohse at Medlen Friday. Let's see if we can get an early line this morning.

Wild card teams play a 1 game series now, thought a Cardinal 'fan' would know this
