Can you top this? It was a Friday mid 1990's. I was at Maywood Park harness track in Chicago. Maywood Park had a promotion called the dash for cash. 8 names were drawn out of a barrel to compete on the racetrack in a 100 yard dash. My name was drawn. A friend of mine dared me to run around the whole track to keep going after the 100 yards. A few people said they would give me $10/$20 to do it.
I knew the track annoucer and the announcer's son I knew even better. So the son told his dad what was about the happen.
The dash starts, the other 7 guys are in an all out sprint but I'm pacing myself for my 1/2 mile journey. I'm about 30 yards thru when the others are finishing the 100 yards. I get to the 100 yard mark and keep going. I get down to the rail approaching the 1st turn. The track announcer annouces "ladies and gentlemen we have a loose human on the racetrack". I continue down the backstretch when the car that has the starting gate attached to it pulls up along side. The tracks GM was in the car and he says to me son stop, I cracked the whip and pulled away slighty. The car pulls up a 2nd time and the GM says son stop, stop you're delaying things. I cracked the whip a couple of times, the track announcer goes "the loose human is rounding the far turn". I approach the stretch and the announcer says "here comes the loose human turning for home". I finished the 1/2 miles in less than 5 minutes.
That was my crazy stunt and a night I will never forget.
