A natural blackjack pays 3:2 or 6:5 (at some gyp joints).

Would it make sence if dealt a natural and the dealer is weak in his up card (4,5,or 6) to refuse the immediate payout, treat your cards as if they were an 11 and double down?

Seems the house offers you the immediate payout to avoid such a senario.

Thoughts or comments?

Nope. That's a good way to turn a win (a big win since blackjack pays add'l odds) into a loss (potentially bigger loss since you're doubling down).

Lets say you bet $20. Get blackjack and that's a payout of $30. You're putting your guaranteed $30 at risk for possibly getting an extra $10 by doubling down. The risk/reward is just not worth it.

Option 1. Take blackjack and get paid, and you're up $30.

Option 2. Double down. You could win $40, you could push winning zero, or you could lose $40.

100% chance of winning $30 or 1/3 chance at winning $40. Easy decision for me.

Terrible move, keep in mind that even with a 5 or 6 up the dealer is only going to bust about 40% of the time.
