I don't know about your area, but gas prices have gone BONKERS here today. I got gas at 4.219 about 2 pm today, and a station across the street which normally has the lowest prices in town was 4.399 a gallon.

Later in the day I had to get more gas and was flabbergasted when I pulled into another ARCO station and had to pay 4.499 a gallon.

But my friend just called me and told me that the station that was 4.399 a gallon had raised their price to 4.999 a gallon!! 5 freakin' dollars a gallon.

Reports on the radio stations say it's because of the refineries that have a shortage. I say BS!!! I say I'm tired of these oil companies pushing us around and driving up the cost of gas! There is no freakin" shortage and they are just using that as an excuse.

I've never seen gas prices rise so fast for no reason....even during the gas "shortage" in the 70's .

there should be a lag time of a few weeks before prices at the pump rise or fall vs. the crude price.

Bloomberg.........
Throughout California, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline jumped 8 cents overnight to $4.32 and was up 18 cents during the past week, according to the AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge.
Analysts said it was poised to quickly soar past $4.37 a gallon — the high so far this year — after refinery outages and pipeline problems left the state short on supplies.

They could sell it for $9 a gallon and we'd buy it. It's a damn monopoly, and it's getting old real fast. We will never see the $3 gallon, let alone $2

It's a finite energy source. Will always go up, especially now that we pretty much know we are on the downward trend of production.

Supply/demand imbalance is driving up prices. Issues with refineries on west coast has created supply shortages. Special blend that is required by California due to the pollution limits is exacerbating the problem.

Paid $4.07 two days ago.. didn't fill up because going to Philly on Sunday and figure I'd grab some in NJ ( which has the lowest prices )
But heard last night that they are getting a 6 cent raise. Not sure what the price is, but guess I will find out soon enough.

Gas is going up because of speculators. They control the price. Also because of ethanol, which is usually 10% in gas.Ethanol is corn. They predicted a bad year for crops (corn) because of drought so the will raise the price of wheat, corn, barley prices this fall. When you have 10% ethanol in your gas,you lose 10% mpg.So basically you are paying more for crappy gas that give you less mpg.all small engine motors have a hard time runnig on this gas.Chainsaws, weedwackers, grasscutters, hedgetrimmers and snowblowers. So if it doenst start if its sitting for a couple weeks, its because the ethanl seperates. You can ruin the motor. They sell an additive that helps with this.

Mike ...........if you shop @ stop n shop you get great discounts for using their rewards card .
Its effortless too ........I save @ times 30 cents per gallon . Keep in mind I spend over 300 a week food shopping .
The way I look @ it , is I have to buy food anyway . One catch is , only Shell stations except the rewards card .
