He called it late but by definition it's the correct call.

You don't have to be on dirt for it to be called.

by definition its the right call....

supposed to be called when the ball is at the apex, anything after is usually let go....if the guy makes that call 2 seconds earlier its the right call

Hard to say if it was right or wrong, it all comes down to a judgment call whether it's an "easy catch" or not.

why don't they force you to catch it on an infield fly rule...if you drop it then each runner gets to advance

That's what the announcers were saying after the game. They also said it's usually called before that so you're right, it was late.

Bad call. If the infielder is giving way to the outfielder, it is obviously not an infield fly.

by definition, it being late makes it the wrong call the braves were screwed pretty hard. however, everyone is acting like braves have it locked up if they get that call. i understand they would have all the momentum and saint louis a little rattled but i'd still rather be the cards in that spot and take my chances with the bases loaded 1 out but up 3 in the 8th.

pretty easy double play with a runner on first and a true infield pop up , say to the pitcher, pitcher could let it drop, then throw to 2nd and 2nd baseman throws to first for a double play , when it should still be only one out on the play and the runner still on first as if the easy ball were caught, as it should be like 99.9 % of the time by MLB players.

Halfway into LF is not the infield though.

Keep in mind that the late hand signal by the ump was also accompanied by him yelling "Infield fly, runner's out" and that likely disrupted the communication between the outfielder and infielder. If as everyone says that it shouldn't have been infield fly, ump is yelling nothing and communication is not disrupted and it is 1st and 2nd with 2 outs instead of 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. It actually may have helped the Braves.
