Kozma backed off that ball because he heard a the umpire call infield fly at the last second.

If anything this gave the braves a break. They have runners and 2nd and 3rd rather then 1st and 2nd. Anyone who has played SS or baseball for that matter will tell you this is exactly what happened.

Wrong, anyone who has played can tell you that the umpire never calls you off a pop fly. The outfielder coming in behind you does, however.

You got some kind of binoculars and bionic ear to know exactly what went down

psychic powers imo.

look at the reaction of the SS when he stops backtracking, he immediately looks behind him to where the ball is falling - expecting the LF to be there. He doesn't look to the umpire until later, probably in shock that an infield fly was called.

Really? And Holliday never saying a word while running in along with holding his hands out like "What the fuck are you doing" wasn't a clear sign he didn't say a word. Watch the tape.

Whether Holliday called for it or not, the shortstop clearly expected there was an outfielder coming in behind him. No way a big league player would ever simply abandon an easy popup and let it drop because of hearing an ump call infield fly. You should reconsider your position on this.

You've obviously never played SS.

The only one that calls you off is your OF.

If there is an Infield Fly rule called, you don't drop the ball on purpose. You still try and make the play. Letting it drop allows runners to advance more easily.

He thought Holliday was going to make a play, period.

You obviously didn't read my post throughly. In no way am I saying that he PURPOSELY dropped the ball. These players are not use to having anyone else in the Outfield with them, so when the umpire unexpectedly shouted infield fly it threw Kozma off.

Just my opinion,

And yes I have played PLENTY of shortstop.

You are right, he thought holliday was going to make the play, why would he come off the ball so sharply if he did not think he was called off.

regardless, while the call was questionable, I think it's kind of humorous no one talks about the last second called time and subsequent HR to change the game early against the Cardinals.
