Yep, and exactly why I'm rooting for them to lose. You don't baby your pitchers like that.

Nope. He's still young, you don't want him throwing crazy amounts of innings this young.

It's one thing for CC to do it, but Strasbug is too young.

IMO this is a great sign for Nationals fans, it shows that they are committed to him and you will most likely see him in a Nats jersey for most of his career if not all of it.

They are committed to money and not to winning. They are completely protecting their investment, nothing else.

There were other ways to do this. They knew in June how many innings they were going to have him throw. They had a huge lead in the division. They easily could have pitched him every 2 times through the rotation and saved his arm and his innings.

I feel very bad for the rest of the guys on the team that busted their asses all year to have the best record in baseball. Might be the only shot at a title some of these guys get.

I agree with your statement partially.

If they pitched him ever 2 times through the rotation the fans would have given the team hell. Fans were coming to games to watch him pitch, if he didn't pitch 1/2 of those games the fans might not of shown up. In the end it is all about money for both sides though.....

they should have pitched him like he never got hurt. becasue as soon as he's a free agent, he's leaving for the highest bidder.. washington wont be that bidder...

i think resting a workhorse who got u to where u are at would have to be one of the most brainless decisions I have ever seen a team make.. honestly if strasburg goes down injury wise so be it but u cant play miss the landmine and guess when u think his arm would have went out or if someone was more prone to injury.. he could end up being a workhorse like verlander.. maybe his first season or two was just a mishap.. sheesh

They should have pitched him all season. He'll be a Yankee as soon as he's eligible for free agency....

a bunch of BS ! Guys used to pitch both games of a doubleheader and /or pitch every 4 days, and finish most of their games, Washington could have easily cut the innings down if that was so important.

How about 5 inning starts ?

somehow if the nats beat the cards and then the giants, imagine how strasburg would feel knowing he wasn't allowed to contribute. I wish my boss said take the rest of the year off i want you to stay healthy an not risk getting hurt, lol.

The Nats are seriously braindead - -
they were in first place in June and did not have the foresight to rest Strasburg so he could pitch in the playoffs --
just dumb considering they probably wont get back to the playoffs for another few years.

They did the right thing in a no win situation. If they let him pitch and he had another arm injury they would have been killed by everyone. SS will be there for a long time because of this

I am rooting against the nats for that very reason, hopefully by next year Strasburg will be man enough to stand up for himself...of course, maybe he really doesn't have the heart to fight and win?

they should have had him throwing on the side the last 2 weeks keeping in shape, and then announced last night that he's going in game 5..

After the all-star break they could have just pitched him at home and he'd still have innings left. Now they're screwed either way. If they win they've already pissed him off for not being part of the World Series run and if they lose they'll be blasted for shutting him down.

Four good starting pitchers with a deep lineup and no playoffs?

Not trying to be condescending, but do you know how hard it is in baseball to make the post-season every year?

Yes, NYY has done it with HOFs and so has ATL with 3. HOF pictures. Nats are not even close to a similar situation. Giants 2x cy young winner in bullpen. People have no idea how tough it is to comeback and duplicate that success over 162.
