Joe Girardi will manage Yankees tonight despite death of his father

Posted by Cindy Boren on October 11, 2012 at 3:53 pm

Joe Girardi is expected to manage the Yankees tonight. (Alex Brandon / AP)

New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi plans to be in the dugout tonight, in spite of the death of his father earlier today.

Jerry Girardi, 81, died in an assisted-living facility, where he had been battling Alzheimer’s disease, in East Peoria, Ill.

General Manager Brian Cashman confirmed (via the New York Daily News) that Girardi would manage Game 4 of the American League Division Series against the Baltimore Orioles.

I was going to take Baltimore +++ $$$, but after hearing this on TBS...........I will gladly back off of this game. Could be an emotional high for the Yankees as they want to win this one for their CHITOWN Skipper!

Very sad to hear that for Girardi.

With that, though, and the enormous amount of momentum the Yankees have from last night, not only can I not see them losing tonight, I think they'll score a significant amount of runs off Joe Saunders. We'll see what happens

Yeah, that emotional factor seems to have that effect, take the Colts reaction to their coaches medical diagnosis last sunday for example. RIP!

I think indy winning that game was more due to green bay thinking they had the game in the bag at half and let the foot off the gas and let indy back in the game.
