one pick i like for tomorrow a lot:
Jon Fitch to win by Unanimous Decision...

Fitch has been the number 2 welterweight in the world for the last 4 years or so, losing only twice, one of those a flukey flash KO and one to undisputed Kingpin Georges Rush St. Pierre... he is facing a young up and coming superstar in Erick Silva.

The public loves Silva because of his wild style and the fact that he finishes a lot of his opponents quickly in the first round. He has rarely been out of the first round, so I automatically question his cardio and how well he deals with adversity.

Fitch is known as a grinder who can take this fight to the ground, neutralizing Silva's devastating strikes and wearing him out as the fight goes on... the longer the fight goes on, the less likely it is that Fitch gets knocked out. Silva has not beaten anyone or even faced anyone of this calibre, so if he wins then huge props to him, but I'm not a believer just yet.

Look to get Fitch at +105 or better. I'm loading up on this one and hoping that the tried tested and true vet shows the young pup what its like to fight in the UFC for real.

Pick: JON FITCH

I'm not saying fitch is a lock or anything, but a lot of people thought alves would tool on fitch in the rematch and alves lost a clear cut 30-27 almost 30-26... yes i know alves is a different fighter than erick silva, but who has erick silva really beaten that is UFC calibre ?

Charlie Brenneman being the closest, and Brenneman looked awful with a lazy shot and let Silva turn the corner to grab his back and choke him out !! it was disgraceful !

I think Erick Silva has a legit chance to win this fight, don't get me wrong, but beating Jon Fitch and beating Charlie Brenneman are two different things... Hendricks KO'ed Fitch, but Hendricks has also beaten a lot of SUPER tough guys already and is pretty much next in line for a title shot if he can beat Hitman.

I think Silva may be on that level, but Jon Fitch is just too huge a step up in competition right now. If he proves me wrong, then we have another challenger at 170, but if Fitch blankets him then what ?

we've also never seen Silva passed the first round, and we know Fitch has cardio for days.

Either way you're leaning, good luck to you.

Silva is also fighting in front of his Country or in this case it's similar to fighting in your home town. From what fighters say, that's a disadvantage. It puts added pressure on you and perhaps adrenaline or over training gets the best of this young kid.

Fitch USED to be the #2 WW.

Time passes all on. This is an instance where the younger evolved fighter is too much. Fitch is almost 35 years old. He got straight KO'd quick in his last fight. He got his ass kicked by an over the hill 155er and got it to a Draw ONLY because Penn gasses in every fight. Otherwise he got destroyed by a natural 155er who isn't half the fighter he used to be. To put shortly, Fitch has looked bad as of late.

Add In:

How many seconds has Fitch been in action of the past year? Not many.

Fitch has been riddled with injury for a while now.

Fitch hasn't evolved.

Fitch has 1 way of winning this as in most of his fights.

Brazil is the worst place the UFC goes for guys trying to lay and pray. They stood Rumble and Vitor up in like 5 seconds a couple times.

UFC HATES Fitch. They wouldn't match him up with an exciting fighter like Erick SIlva just to have him laid on. They know what they are doing. They don't want Fitch near the top anymore.

Perhaps Fitch finds a way to lay and pray. But there are a lot of factors against him.

Silva all day!

You need to do your research.

Yea, fighting in front of people and staff that speak your language is a bad thing. Not having a long ass flight while trying to keep weight down is a bad thing. Fact is Erick Silva has fought in Brazil all of his life. He has 1....count them....1 fight outside of Brazil. How would he be nervous?

I'd rather be the guy comfortable by being in a country I know. He has fought there countless times and lives there.

Not sure how you can say it is a bad thing for him.

BTW if you check my posts you'll see that I did not pick him, although I was supporting his pick...Post your own so we can rip your expert opinion apart.

I did come off as a dick.

I am just a fan of logic. And 15-3 record for Brazilians vs. Non-Brazilians on Brazil cards goes against you saying they have some sort of pressure from fighting at home.

Truth is it isn't their homes exactly. What if a Jersey guy fights in Cali? Is that his "home" just because he is fighting in the U.S.? Brazil is a country not a city.

If anything fighting in a country they are familiar with helps them a great deal. Most of them said they feed off the energy. Most grew up fighting on the Brazil circuit....like Erick Silva. So to think fighting in their home country is something new...it is not.

Maybe Fitch wins. Maybe he is able to...and then they let him lay and pray. But there are many things against him.

If the logic that fighter A. will win because he is more experienced, has fought better guys, and used to be a top talent works....then I will expect you guys to be on Penn as well vs. Rory. I mean Penn is a legend and has fought way better guys than Rory has.

I don't post here anymore because this place gets no traffic. I took a look and responded like a dick.

Sorry guys but those are my reasons why I like Erick Silva.

Well that's fine man, I personally welcome people's opinions, just be careful on the tone. Perhaps you are correct and Silva wins, but Fitch may win as well. We will only see. I enjoy your view on them and welcome your conflicting or supporting opinion, hopefully you will post here more (myself included)

Fitch will probably win. Last couple times I have had a really good feeling it has blown up. But I've liked Silva since the match was made.

I don't believe the UFC is fixed. But they know how to create matchups that help their business and propel careers. They know better than anyone how fighters stack up. I know that they hate Jon Fitch. Dana has pretty much gone that far in saying that. He has questioned a few things that the UFC has done. On top of it his is maybe the most boring fighter in the UFC....maybe not. But of any top 10 fighters at any weight he probably is. It isn't that good for business to have Fitch near the top knocking off other fighters who would bring new things to GSP.

I feel the UFC has more or less set Fitch up to lose. It makes odd sense that they would send a vet coming off a KO loss down to Brazil to face an upcoming fighter. And odd that Silva goes from Brenneman to Jon Fitch. Seems to me like they are trying to make a name off of Fitch.

Maybe this isn't the time yet. But all old vets have their day at some point. Fitch has been in this a while. He is almost 35. He hadn't been KO'd like that since he started. He got his ass whooped by over the hill 155er Penn. The Jon Fitch that was ROCK STEADY seems gone. I think fighters are evolving. Look how Aldo and Barao have evolved in having some of the better take down defense, even though neither trained wrestling in school or college.

Plus I just love Erick Silva's camp. Anderson has seemed to take a liking to him. Nogs. Feijao. That camp has so many killers. So much knowledge. All of those guys have fought with wrestling being their worst aspect of their games. Yet all have been successful. If anyone is going to teach Erick Silva how to defend a wrestler it will be the Blackhouse team.

Has the feeling of Hughes/Alves or Barao/Faber to me.

Not sure what the Hughes/Alves line was. But some people said it was crazy that Barao was almost a 2 to 1 favorite. They said they would gladly take Faber at + money because he has been around the block and has had 5 round fights. But Barao didn't care, he easily beat Faber that night as was never intimidated.

Both Hughes and Faber were the wrestlers, who had fought everyone. Who were still thought to be top 5 guys. Alves and Barao were the 2 guys who people thought didn't have enough quality wins to justify such a big "jump" up.
