OK....lots of folks really don't like him and that is the nature of doing the job, I suppose. I enjoy the guy. He is confident, but he can laugh at himself and some of his own mis-statements... He has a sense of humor, loves the game and really doesn't talk too much.
When I was a kid, I loved John Madden, but he became a caricature of himself and I got older, too. Gruden is very welcome to me. He is confident in his football knowledge...doesn't talk too much and has a sense of humor.

howard cosell wasn't a color guy. he was an in-betweener. howard wasn't going to do any XXOO's on the air. dandy don was color, gifford was play-by-play. howard was like this, 'the chargers mgnmt has to be questioning whether norv turner should be coaching this team tomorrow morning. and does phillip rivers just have too many kids?' howard was a true journalist. journalist, that's the word i'm looking for, that's better than 'in-btweener'.
Sex pest around ESPN and didn't like the way he stabbed Kornheiser in the back. As Bill Simmons so correctly said: "If I was [Kornheiser]...and I had this guy with me who was subtly undermining me, changing the subject on me and greeting my jokes with dead silence, I would eventually strangle this person on live TV.
I didn't care for Cosell, either. He was pretty much a rear in my opinion, too. How much could one say that Gruden and Cosell have in common? I don't see any resemblence including that of rearendishness.... rearness... buttheadedness....whatever. Oh! ...including that of being an ass. That's the way to say it.
