What kind of promotions can a brick and mortar book to do increase foot traffic ? Casinos do match plays, etc and those are obviously very popular. Any ideas or anything a Vegas book has done in the past that stood out as a great promotion ?

I think for years the Hilton had used the Super Contest to get people through the door.

Others have used similar Contests.. or Free Contests to draw people in.

I would think Free Parlay Cards would help... even if it's for $2.00

Free TV drawing ? Prizes like that... would Help a Sportsbook.

Bottom line... Give away FREE.. they will come

I think some have drawings and u get an entry (not for a monstrous prize) when u get a receipt from betting window.

T-SHIRTS, T-SHIRTS, and more T-SHIRTS

These have been the #1 staple since Sonny started doing such at the old Castaways..................many of those castaways shirts are now highly collectible.

DRINKS, DRINKS, and more DRINKS

Give a Vegas sportsbettor a free 43 cent t-shirt and a free 6 cent beer and they may blow $99 or more in a day.

Agree Fish. That's my favorite (getting drink tickets).

I like the free $2 parlay card. That would be fun for newer gamblers (hell, anyone...as it gives you something to follow throughout the games).

I need to get back to Vegas!!

Well to start we had a twin Q horse racing contest everyday! We would select 2 races and you needed to hit the house Q each race-if not 80% of the handle was added to the next day--each Thursday-was a free horse racing contest-one track-20 per race -any way--500 1st-250-2nd -100 3rd. Every Monday night was FOOTBALL BOARD= 100 free squares -first come first gotten. must be present to win. We also had a free weekly pro challenge card-pick 15 games- winner each week got a autograrphed football-plus all weekly winners recieved an entry to the final weeks contest- that winner got a trip to the Super Bowl - all expenses paid. All these plus more increased foot traffic to the book and the casino. gl all

T-shirts and drink tickets are #1 and #1a. Folks will flock and plunk down 20 bucks for a cool cheap t-shirt. We had some pretty neat ones back in the day.

Gone are the days where we would give away golf club bags, BBQ sets, etc.

I remember one year I wanted to give away a race horse but because of complications and management settled on a trip to Del Mar. It was pretty cool seeing one of my biggest horse degenerates touching the dirt and seeing his face light up. Even funnier seeing him busted before race 1 cuz of simulcasting.

The corporate belt-tightening has taken away any creativity and the dearth of talented "old-school" managers makes for an embarassing environment.

And the bitch of it is, they are giving out the same type prizes that they gave when only had Palace Station. Boyd Group has a free contest every week for nice prizes!
