i bought a new car in july from chevy, i remember the guy telling me for rather the first 2 or 3 yrs I get all of my oil changes and tire rotation type services done free at the dealership. I cant find the exact paper work off hand as I have filed it away, my question is, when i bring my car in should i tip any of them for the work they do? if so, who should i give it to? also am i already possibly paying for these services as they were built into the sales price?

I just about always tip the person who physically worked on my car. Just $10 or so but it's enough for them to get a free lunch or something.

if i drop my car off at the dealership and chill for 45 mins or whatever and then leave, i might not ever meet any of the mechanics who did work on my car, just the desk clerk

these guys are not expecting a tip persay as trust me that 1-3k was factored into ur price of ur car and they do get paid a reasonable wage to perform services unlike the wage paid to stylists/waiters/etc

with this being said I would definitely throw them something depending on the speed and service factors as per normal :)

no you don't tip these guys....you tip a waitress that gets $2.50 per hour. You don't tip a mailman that makes $23 per hour and so on....

you tip when needed. Waitstaff needs tips, strippers need tips.....mechanics and mail carriers don't get tipped.

As when I moved to Nevada, 'The Tokeout Capital of the World' - when in doubt, toke out! If they are offended by your gracious gesture, so be it. Never saw anybody offended by a sufficiently large enough tip in my life. Have been turned down before and always told them a sure fire tip was gonna be given very soon in their name, and meant it. (This has happened less than a handful of times.)

Learned from an early age that Tipping is not a city in China....

Good tips means better service down the line....

I don't tip mechanics with a shoprate of $95 / hr or so. I pay them cash so they can do things off the books and cut it to maybe $50/ hr. I tip a waitress that makes $3/ hr.
