We all have experienced the extreme high after a great sports betting day, and the agony after an awful one.....

What is your ritual after one of those horrible days (and I don't mean just a small losing day, I'm talking about the epic fails). I can't think of a worse feeling than those nights.

For me, I usually don't sleep at all, stay up all night watching movies, surfing the web, anything to give me instant gratification where my mind won't have to focus on the day.

As you can probably guess I had one of those days today. Was up about 3k the past 3 weeks, built slowly and patiently mostly in the nba. Lost half of it on the patriots this afternoon, then put the rest on the kings +10 right after my first loss. A dumb move, but I was going on the kings history in LA. Then, an hour before the game demarcus cousins gets suspended, my book obviously won't let me cancel my bet, and kings get blown out. We have all been there. I just want to know how other people react to it. Do you take a few days off, get right back at it, brush it off and move on etc...?

I usually try to sleep it off. My problem is I am an eternal optimist. So, I figure i will get back on the horse in a day or two be successful again. I gave it up late last college hoops season. I thought about giving it up again. Not just from a financial standpoint, but so damn time consuming.

Agree with two out of three, but I don't think I will ever bet another double digit favorite in the nfl again. I get burned almost every time

do as i say, not as i do

i say you take a full week off. not a day or two, a full week because it is a whole weekend of action you miss that will really clear the head. when you come back there is no chase mentality, a $5 bet might be exciting. You will be back at 0-0 in your mind. nothing is due, nothing is streaky.

but when it happens to me, if i lost my chase bet, i try to see if i can maintain that level of bets or close to it. In my mind, things even out and after losing all these games there will be some winners due....i'd absolutely hate for those winners to be when i decrease my bet. if i go on a mini run (even 4-0 or 5-1), i usually drop down cause i have satisfied my even out theory even though i'm down on the whole

Well I lost about 2k in various unlucky ways this weekend... Set over set in poker, meaningless points in basketball to ruin covers, etc...

what do I do?? Find the next bet I can fire at immediately. I just keep firing bullets until either I run out or get back...it's very hard to stop

You have a gift of capping like you said in the other thread.
since that's the case you will probably never have to worry about a day like yesterday ever again.

CHOPTALK as always your condescending posts are so helpful.

For everyone else thanks for the advice and I think I will in fact take a week off.

btw choptalk, the lakers only covered that game by 3 points. If demarcus cousins doesn't get suspended after I have already submitted my bet, Kings easily cover because dwight doesn't end up with 18 rebounds. It doesn't matter how good you are at picking games everyone can become a victim of bad luck and bad money management; last night was a combo of the two.

IMO you need to learn to not get too low w/the bad streaks and too high with the good ones. Yeah there are bad days and losses that hurt, but I try to get over them asap. Life goes on. I have a wife and kids, I can't afford to be one pissed off or depressed s.o.b, just moping around the house. Over the years I've mastered the art of keeping a smile on my face at the dinner table even while watching a score come across my phone that means I just lost a dime on a game I should have won. I like to bet on sports so what the hell else am I going to do? If I can't deal with the losses then it's time to find something else.

Haha can't stop laughing "if cousins played, kings easily cover"

And what's the excuse for the patriots game that you were blowing steam about all week?

Stop making excuses, take a week off to try and reconfigure things, and then get back on the horse and pick some winners.

Well 2 days you start a thread about money management and another thread about having a gift for capping. Then yesterday you bet half your bankroll on the pats In the am and then the other half of your roll in the pm then you come in here crying about your loses.

Your opening post in this thread is so funny I can't wipe the smile off my face.

you know the comment about your done betting the NFL because there is nothing rational about football that it can't be capped. Lmfaa.

so your solution to that problem was to quit betting football and stick to baseball and basketball. Lol.

yea that's the solution. We all know that closers never blow leads in baseball and 80% free throw shooters never miss important free throws.

you are quickly becoming one of my top 5 favorite posters on this site. But it's for all the wrong reasons.
so if you get the chance to read this post inbetween commute from one of your 3 full time jobs just think about some of the things you posted in the last few weeks.

Sorry the quit betting football comment must have been in one of your other comedy gold threads. I can't keep up with which thread is which. You have more hits then the Beatles. Sometimes it's hard to keep up what was said where.

But please, whatever you do don't stop posting. I enjoy your post.

I had a dream day Saturday. Everything I touched won. The gambling gods got me back on Sunday as I gave some back. Despite a loss I stayed disciplined and netted out a winner for the weekend.
You cannot get emotionally invested because horrific beats will send you chasing. My last three bets on Sunday turned to losers when the intentional Nascar wreck wiped out two easy matchup winners, and New Mex. St. fouling down 8 to push it over when most of the team had given up. I just laughed it off and started looking for some more opportunities.
Without discipline and money management the only +EV solution is to sit on the sidelines.

choptalk and this guy going back and forth is highly, highly entertaining

I don't hate the guy I just think he is incredibly naive.
Seems like a good hearted well intentioned person.
Just funny as hell some of the things he types.

And Justin.
Please whatever you do keep posting buddy.

Great advice, Thanks

One thing I know is that every lesson in sports betting is an expensive one, and there is always more to learn. You have to manufacture almost inhuman discipline to be successful. It's a long process.
