Anyone ever have a bunion?

I play a lot of basketball and racquetball, and about two months ago I started to have a nasty pain on the outside of my left foot. It got so bad
I had to lay off of playing for a couple weeks, which I hate doing. I thought I had a cracked bone in my foot.

I do the official scoring for the local NCAA basketball games, and I had the trainer look at my foot last night, and he diagnosed me with
"Taylor's Bunion, or Bunionette," a bunion on the little toe - which is more rare than the bunion on the big toe.

I bought a gel brace for it at Walgreen's this morning, and was able to play racquetball on it for the first time in a month.

I'm wondering what people's experiences are with these, as I see some people end up having to have surgery to get rid
of them. My case seems to be minor, compared to some of the pictures - but it sure is painful...

Had a regular bunion below my big tool from a traumatic football injury about 15 years ago. Never gave me a problem and then one day it was painful to walk unless I was on my heels which looked awkward. It also started to pushing my big toe against the next toe which started to cause it to rub against my shoe and scab so I had to wear a band-aid on me 2nd toe. Had a cortisone shot which was great but only lasted about 3 months until the pain came back.

Had bunion surgery in 2010 and they put a pin in my 2nd toe. Have never had pain since and it was the best decision I have made. The surgery was about 1 hour outpatient and I had about a week I could not put weight on my foot. Within months was playing bball and running again.
