I won a contest selling mutual funds back in 1969. Company was flying all winners out to Vegas on a chartered jet out of Newark for a Thursday to Sunday junket at Caesers Palace. I took $400 with me. Those were the days of $1 black jack. There were hardly any slot machine, and the ones that were there were one coin. By saturday we were broke and asked my wife's aunt to wire us some money. Later I found out that everyone on the trip had a $500 credit limit. Good thing I found out after the fact.
Since mutual funds and new issues (IPO's) were in their hey day, the company went all out to show us a good time. We had dinner shows every night. First it was the Stardust and Lido de Paris, followed by the Sands, and finally the best one at Caesers. Had my first Caesers salad made from scratch at our table. Andy Williams was the lead entertainer.
I never saw so many celebrities in my life. Sonny and Cher were at the Caesers pool, and you could see her cesarian section as she was wearing a biikini. As we left the pool, we bumped into the 5th Dimension as they were going to visit Sonny and Cher.
When we were at the Sands, we left the show early as we didn't want to watch the 2nd act. Started watching a craps table, and saw a woman throw down $5 on box cars "for dinner" and wouldn't you know it, box cars came in. Started walking around and heard a lot of action coming from another craps table. We went over to see what was going on. Turns out, a bunch of guys from NYC were beating this table for $60,000. Crowd was so big you couldn't get near the table. found out the next day these guys won over $100,000.
Tom Jones was appearing across the street at the Flamingo and he was the hottest entertainer around. Some guys wifes wanted to see TJ and the guys went up to the matre de to get some seats. They offered him $100 for some seats and he told them that would get them a seat on the chandelier. LOL!
