When I was young I was stupid. I fucked up went to strip clubs, gambled, took credit card advances. Put myself deep in debt. I realized how stupid I was, grew up, got a second job and paid off my debt.

Then I went to the library, immersed myself in books about stuff I wanted to know about. I had a college degree but was largely ignorant as I just got by. I went from 40k in debt to a millionaire in 7 years.

I retired early. Got bored, traveled, blew my money. Went back to work and am now in a good place that I could walk away with no regrets or financial burdens.

Yet I hear story after story about the economic crisis, how people can't get a job, etc. My best friend has been on unemployment for 3 1/2 years. The benefits MAY expire this year and he is worried how he can get by. I had to bite my tongue as I said, um, get a job. His response was it would cost him money to do so.

Really? Really? Really?

I offered six people a job making 60k a year this week and they all said, no I'm going to keep my unemployment benefits.

Do you really live with pride?

I've been broke. Had $17 dollars, went with a friend on a dealing audition, he had $7 and a carton of milk. Five years later he was a millionaire as an entrepreneur and owned 5 stores, and I was on my feet with a couple hundred thousand in the bank.

It's not hard, but it requires hard work and determination. But why bother when we can make no effort and have everything handed to us.

Let's face it... It's the American way. Sad but true...

People rather live off the Gov... ( I would have to say a Good 40% does ) probably on the low side..

Did that come off as an ego thing? Really. My fault then. I was talking to a hard-working maintenance worker this morning, complimenting them on a job well-done, when they went off on a rant that left me dumb-founded.
I made money, lost money, made money. The importance was the knowledge gained.
I've been down in a hole and blamed no one but myself and digged back out.

GD, i hate to say it but your perception on how easy it is to make a million is pretty bad.

I agree there are a lot of people that are lazy or just want the free money. But to imply that they would rather live that lifestyle than work hard knowing they will make a million is crazy.

why dont you offer them $200,000 a year and see if they pass it up ($200,000 x 7 years = $1,400,000....less $60k/year for living leaves them just under a million in 7 years)

But to answer your question, yea, there are some real lazy asses out there. They would rather make a little less from government assistance, than get a job. That's not me, I wasn't raised that way. I have been broke, flush and in between. But when I need cash, I don't look for handouts, I do what I got to do. Learning to live within my means has been my biggest life obstacle yet

This is why I think the Democrat party is killing this country.

They pander big time to the leeches in society.

Why get a job when you can leech off everyone that does work?

Take Democrats out of it, it's how kids are being raised these days, looking for the instant gratification and having everything handed to them, period

Try the serenity prayer. Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference. Sounds dumb I know, but I use to wallow in shit I had no control of, wasted energy

No logical person can take democrats out of it, as this notion of government assistance is the backbone of the party. that 40% (who are lazy and want to live off the government) that someone else spoke of in this forum vote democrat purely because of this reason. So in fact it makes perfect sense to make democrats part of the conversation.

Unfortunately, this type of behavior will continue to get worse in the next four years. Very sad because these aren't the principles that made this country great, but they just may be its downfall.

My kids aren't being raised this way, nor are any of the kids they go to school with.

Maybe you are raising your kids that way, but the people I hang with do not. Period.

My aim was to take the politics out of it completely.

Shadow, I agree as I got a bit lucky investment-wise at the time (although I did a shitload of research to find some good opportunities).

Even then, a comfortable standard of living should be very attainable.

Find a job you love, make a good wage, live happily. Instead we, as a society, blame others.

Hope it is a wake up call to some.

I've been to the mountaintop as well as the valley.

It isnt' democran/republicrat.

It is work ethic. It is learning and self-improvement. People don't want to hear it.

The jobs were 6 weeks training, no experience, show up every day. You'd be amazed how that thins the herd.
