(Lamenting the late, great entertainment forum) Well he put on a few pounds. Their best stretch was with him and I think this is great to see and perhaps some others will agree.

From last weekend in London

Of all the great studio work Mick Taylor did with the Rolling Stones, I'd have to rank his playing on this track #1. It was from the last album he did with them at age 24 (It's Only Rock'n'Roll). He was supposed to get a songwriting credit but didn't.

Agreed .. Mick Taylor was a big plus for the group. Should have gotten more credit for his song contributions too. Amazing how some people don't even know who he was.

An unfortunate domino effect of Mick Taylor's abrupt departure was it hastened the demise of the Faces, who were just about the greatest live act I ever saw. The Faces are/was Ron Wood's true calling, but I don't know how much longer they were gonna last anyway.

What I find kinda funny about the clip from the gig last week in post #1 is I'd wager that Mick Taylor navigates more real estate in that version of Midnight Rambler than all the gigs he played from 1969 to 1974 combined. The clip below (from 1973) is pretty standard in terms of how much he moved from his spot. Nonetheless, a superior talent.

It's about a 4 hour drive for me, but I'm going to Vegas for 10 days starting the 7th. Maybe there will be a Boston date in the future. I am going to rock legend Ian Hunter's gig tomorrow (in Boston). I can't believe he's been here twice in less than a year. The last 2 times there was over a 10 year separation.

Mick Taylor is a great player. I always thought it was funny that when he played for the Stones, they never played their guitar masterpiece "Time Waits For No One" live because Taylor's great solo in that song would have upstaged Keith Richards. And Richards would have never stood for it. Great song if you've never heard it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TeR7P7pDxk

"Time Waits For No One" was on the album "It's Only Rock'n'Roll", which was released in October 1974. They had a tour (named Tour of the America's) lined up in 1975 and he quit the band months before it was to commence. Therefore, there was never an opportunity to put it in a setlist with Mick Taylor in the band. In addition, there's no need to include a youtube link. I embedded that song in post #2 several days ago.

This was something I read in a rock mag a long time ago. I had heard that Taylor had the song in the can in 1973 before they recorded it, and wanted to play it on the 1973 tour but Richards didn't want it in. I don't know if it's true or not since everything with this band was a drug induced fog back then. I know the Stones were dicks back then, and not only didn't give Taylor writing credits for Time Waits For No One, but several other songs he wrote too.

I have no idea if that's true. I do know from having numerous bootlegs from that time that setlists generally remained static throughout a given tour and consisted of released material. It would have been an anomaly to play an original number that wasn't already released. If the story of Taylor wanting to play it is true, the reason for not doing it might not have anything to do with ego or selfishness.

Meanwhile, they played a 2nd London show on the 29th and had him once again join for Midnight Rambler...
