I'm torn. Part of me thinks that the coach has the right to do whatever he feels is best for his team.

But another part of me thinks it's total BS for TNT who is showing the game, for the fairness of competition, and most of all for the fans at the arena. Its always been a life long dream for me to see a lakers game. This year I have courtside tickets to the lakers-pacers in Indianapolis. I would be devastated if kobe, dwight, nash, and all those guys did not even make the trip.

i think its crazy that they pulled the starters to not play miami full force.. kinda weird.

what would be funnier yet is if spurs beat miami at home. lol

I didn't read the story... What was the excuse for resting them?

it was so they didnt show the heat their best effort.. papavich said it was because of the scheduling.. back to backs/road games.etc.. but its all bs

they are on like game 6 of a road trip and played last night.. but still bs they rested everyone

He's been doing this for years. His team his old, they are on a long road trip, and played last night. Stern has no right to impose any sort of foolish sanctions and he won't be able to in the end.

I can understand resting the older guys. But green is 25 and parker only 30.

plus I think of the spurs fans living in miami that bought tickets solely for this one game to see their star players of their team, and that is not fair to them. They should at least be given a refund.

The more I think on this the more i am on stern's side. A coach can not start to think he has more power then the league as a whole.

btw stern will have these sanctions imposed by tomorrow

The garbage this league/commissioner spews. They literally manipulate referee assignments in playoff series, had a referee busted for gambling, rigged the lottery last year, teams tank for the shot at better draft picks, and stern is up in arms over this!? Gimme a break.

And with the ties Scott foster has to Tim donahey, how is he still allowed to ref games?

Its amazing people take this league seriously.

Professional sports is just entertainment. Thats it. No different than a musical, concert, or WWE event. If you pay your money expecting to see a certain act, I assume you'd be pissed if that act didn't show up. What if you bought tixs to see Bon Jovi and when you got there they said they couldn't make it but we got Def Leopard to take their place. The Heat have a varying cost for each home game tixs. You play a team like the Bucks or Bobcats you pay a lower price. You play the Thunder or Spurs you pay a much higher price. I'm sure you will have people today demanding their money back because of the product on the floor was not what they paid for. Stern will and should make them pay. It's entertainment; that's it.

The product on the floor was exactly what they paid for. They paid for the San Antonio Spurs against the Miami Heat. You cannot possibly penalize San Antonio for this. What happens if Pop feels Duncan should be coming off the bench at some point? If Stern doesn't like it he can just fine them? This is the most ridiculous story in the NBA this year. It's Pop's team he can do whatever he wants. It's not like he grabbed people off the street and had them suit up. The people paid to see the Spurs and saw the Spurs. They might not have seen the guys they wanted to see but that's what it is. They did this last year too. They played Portland and lost by 40. If Stern says it's about the fans I'd love to hear why it's ok to do to Portland but not Miami. Either way the NBA has to right to tell teams who can and can't play.

The funny thing is, the Spurs scrubs team was up by 5 in the waning minutes of the game.

If Ray Allen doesn't hit a clutch 3 at the end, the Spurs probably would have won.

BTW, I think Stern is a douche bag for making such a big stink over this, but I'm sure
I'd feel differently if I had bought tickets to that game.

Your points make sense. But try to think of this way. I will use a personal example that I have talked about earlier.

It is on my bucket list to see a lakers game, specifically to see kobe bryant. I live in the midwest, so I can't purchase a ticket at the staples center obviously. So, I bought very expensive floor seats to the lakers-pacers in the ONE game they play in indianapolis this season(2 hours from me). As Rooftop said, these tickets were over triple the price of a game against a less popular team like the rockets, bobcats, wizards etc etc. etc.. What if they decided to rest Kobe and the starters for that one game? Am I really getting the product that I paid extra for? Because the coach decided on a whim to rest his players, I may never see one of my all time sports idols. These decisisons effect peoples lives. It's pretty safe to assume this same thing happened in Miami.

BTW this also happened to me when I was really young and my dad bought us tickets to see Jordan, but he rested that day. We never saw Michael Jordan on a basketball court. Good for Stern for letting the NBA coaches know that them "winning a championship" isn't as important as what gives them a job in the first place, which is the fans.

If you really believe that's how Stern feels can you answer my question as to why it was perfectly acceptable to do in Portland? Also, just so you are aware if that situation happened to you The Lakers wouldn't be punished. Stern wouldn't give a shit if Kobe sat against Indy because they are a small market team and the game won't be on TNT. So if you think this is really about the fans you couldn't be further off. I think it would be a shame if you got Lakers tickets and Kobe sits but you shouldn't punish the Lakers for it. It was S.A.'s 4th game in 5 nights. This was not some bs move by Pop. If Stern wants to keep this from happening maybe he shouldn't put teams in this position.

You're right that the lakers probably wouldn't be punished. But this punishment will make teams think twice about doing it in the first place. In this situation, I think its more of a case where Stern got sick and tired of the spurs doing this. Pop has been resting his starters at truly ridiculous times more and more the past few years.
