We're renting out a room of our house while we're gone.

We've had an overwhelming response to the listing. Everything from young college kids, to even a state police officer.

We were hoping one of our friends would need the place, but that hasn't been the case. A friend of a friend is our leading candidate but we want to interview at least 3 people.

Since they are staying in our home, we obviously want a trustworthy responsible person. How can we get a background check and a credit check on these people?

Thanks for the information

when renting rooms, a stranger is a total crap shoot,,, even to the cop,,,,

if you can get REFERRALS from people you know?? people with somehting to lose? that matters mroe than a stupid credit report,,, 90% of the public has bad credit,, poor reason to exclude. You want history, and people with a reputation,,
good luck

How much are you making off of this? Doesn't appear worth it to me. You stand to lose a lot more than the $500-$1000 per month you gain.

I rented a house after my bi polar ex kicked me out a few years ago. The guy I rented from was gone for 6 months, high ranking military guy. It was a good situation for me. Whole house and gave my ex and I some time to cool off. The dude and I agreed that when he returned I would make an exit. So he tells me he's coming home at some point but he says.."just stay there cause [he] might leave again, he's not sure." Dude comes back and plants roots without telling me. I didn't want a roommate, but he did apparently to help with his mortgage.

One day he couldn't find a vinyl record in it's album sleeve and suggested I was fking with his stuff. I got the F out of there. I didn't touch hardly anything in the whole damn house. Even left the pool table alone.

It's not about the money... its more about having someone here to take care of the house. In fact, we even have a cat, and both the prospects have agreed to take care of her.. they also will do the yard work... the rent is ridiculously cheap. $150/month + all utilities which run approx $300 a month... they are getting the entire house to themselves (without access to our bedroom)...its an amazing deal for the right person, which is why we had so many applicants, nearly 40.... plus in the agreement, we may come home for 1 or 2 weeks at a time a couple times a year, so well still have internet and tv when we come home... it really works out for all of us....

yeah, were doing references. We have it narrowed down to two people....

One is a friend of a friend, lady in her 30s, were leaning toward her because of good things people I know say about here....

The other works some high end job at the college.. Think she is in her 50s. She lives 2.5 hours away, so right now she has been coming in town, saying in a hotel Monday, leaving Thursday... thats exactly how shell use our house... she makes great money and is also a landlord of multiple properties.

We had 15+ college girls apply, most of them rather attractive, and some how my wife found something wrong with all of the them.:think2:

I would worry about the second one being there on the weekends to tend to the cat.
