Visiting my parents there next week - my brother (37) and I (31) will probably need to get away from my parent's lovely, but boring, gated community and into town... Any fun places? I like to gamble, but he doesn't... We both dig sports. Maybe there's a good spot for hiking? Bars/restaurants that are musts?

bars scene is pretty solid theres a good strip in siesta key easy to find lots of variety
as for downtown gator club is like a fancy dive bar and theres a couple other sport spots you can miss

only casino is in tampa so nearly an hour away

I second this, have a couple of friends that work there and it is a well run room in my opinion.

Something to pass the day if you are not gambling or drinking. There is a place called moat marine on long boat key that is pretty cool. It has all kind of marine life there.

I believe there's a boat that goes from that area to the Florida Keys for day trips. Might be something to keep in mind.

Hey - thanks everyone for the thoughts.

Capt - I wish I could take you up on your offer, but my parents are old and my brother doesn't fish. Next time I come down I'll definitely get at you though, sounds great.

Anyone know of a good restaurant? Looking for some seafood, but enough 'turf to appease my older brother? I'd like something that is a good example of local food... Scouting yelp right now for spots...

If you do mind a drive to Tampa. Berns steakhouse is something worth the drive. Everyone should enjoy the desert there at least once!

On Anna Maria Island theres a small place called The Mermaid Best food ive ever had and multiple meals il vouch for wont be disappointed and theres a small burger joint on the way called skinnies still best burger ive ever had... And ive brought 5-6 friends over the years there and they all say the same so its not a homer opinion
