Never heard of this project till just now. Sounds like another good one by Tarantino. I cant wait to see which classics he decides to steal ideas from this time.

Genre-hopping Quentin Tarantino tackles a full-on western next, and as you’d expect, he’s got a stellar cast on board. Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell, Christoph Waltz and Don Johnson are amongst the ensemble this time. Kevin Costner was also due to feature, but has since had to pull out due to other commitments.

Tarantino has, as always, penned the script, and Django Unchained - which arrives at the very end of 2012 - is the story of a slave-turned-bounty hunter, played by Jamie Foxx, who attempts to free his wife. Things do not go to plan.

Tarantino is giving himself a little more time to lock a final cut than he did with his last movie, Inglourious Basterds (whose schedule was part-dictacted by Tarantino’s desire to screen the film at Cannes), and that space should allow him to fashion one of 2012’s must-see movies. Here’s hoping

definitely the cast is stellar.. i mean lots of people that viewers want to see in a movie I am sure.. I just think it will fail unless it soars at cannes.. (bad idea in my book).. ur film either gets huge approval or it dies right then and there....whereas if u released it to theaters u would get ur 200 mill+ right then and there. heh

"Death Proof has got to be the worst movie I ever [made]," Tarantino told THR. "And for a left-handed movie, that wasn't so bad, all right? So if that's the worst I ever get, I'm good. But I do think one of those out-of-touch, old, limp, flaccid-dick movies costs you three good movies as far as your rating is concerned."
Death Proof was part of Grindhouse, a double feature along with Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror. The duo didn't exactly score at the box office either. It took in just over $25 million domestically on a budget that reportedly reached $67 million. Not all turned out dismal though, it did receive a 65 percent on Rotten Tomatoes among critics - not horrendous though certainly not gangbusters.

Great thread.............

A good friend of mine who works for a group that owns a bunch of theaters felt that what hurt the Grindhouse project
was that it was released/debuted on Easter weekend (back in 2007). He felt it was and is a traditionally bad weekend
to release/debut any R-rated movie.

As far as Django goes, Tarantino loves Sergio Corbucci directed Italian Westerns. These are more hardcore than fellow
Italian director Sergio Leonne or even american director Sam Peckinpah. So you will see Tarantino pay homage to Corbucci's
hardcore or should I say hardgore style of western.

My personal favorite Sergio Corbucci is "The Great Silence"

I loved Death Proof, especially the directors cut. I remember when Jackie Brown came out some people called it boring. I hear QT's next projects are a 1930's type gangster flick and Kill Bill 3. Works for me.

I remember going to see both movies after work on release day and what hurt the sales from the movies is that some people actually never got to see the second movie "Death Proof" because the stupid asses walked out during the credits of "Planet Terror" not realizing they were getting two movies out of the price of one. So people went on online and spread the word that they were disappointed and it caused people to think twice about buying a ticket.
