If you were a highly wanted high school athlete what would matter most to you:

School's past success history, the coach, the location of the school, academics, team facilities, how good the team has been lately, how much fun you had on the recruiting trip...

Also, if you the Choice to play for either:
a coach with a lot of proven success that was known to be "tough" or a "players" coach with unproven history, as a player who would you rather play for?

Tradition matters but is only relative if the team is currently trending in its historical reputation.

The coach plays a very pivotal part, but in today's environment, you have to be aware that coaches can come and go on a whim.

Location should play a role if you want your family to be able to attend your games.

Academics should play very little of a role if you have aspirations to play at the next level, as most any major Division 1 has the same basic majors as the others.

Team facilities plays a major role as the great programs have great facilities.

Fun on recruiting trip...no.

Also I am going to a school that has a lot of hot girls...

You definitely want to play for a coach with a proven track record and also a record for getting players prepped to be drafted high and successful at the next level, ie. Nick Saban, etc.

I think where your heart lies would play a big part (if that school is interested).. it would be awfully hard to play for michigan if u grew up loving ohio state ... just saying :)

I was a skinny track star in high school and was recruited by just about every school in the country. I chose Maryland because I really liked the coach and I had a blast on my recruiting trip. Bad move in retrospect because my coach got fired at the end of my Freshman year and I ended up transferring to Florida. 4 of the top 6 distance runners transferred out with a full release (meaning we didn't have to sit out a year).
