The Yankees have turned to an old rival to serve as Alex Rodriguez’s replacement.

The team on Tuesday reached agreement with free-agent third baseman Kevin Youkilis on a one-year, $12 million contract, according to major-league sources.

The deal, which is pending a physical, will bring to New York a player who spent nearly his entire career with the Boston Red Sox.

Rodriguez, who will undergo surgery on his left hip next month, will be out until at least May and possibly July.
Youkilis, 33, started last season with the Red Sox, then was traded to the Chicago White Sox on June 24.

He performed much better for the White Sox, producing a .771 OPS, 15 home runs and 46 RBI in 80 games.
Youkilis had a .692 OPS, four homers and 14 RBI in 42 games with the Red Sox, and spent three weeks on the DL with lower back tightness.

Once Rodriguez returns, Youkilis can spell him at third and also contribute at first base and DH.

so this means youk better produce because if he plays like he did at red sox it will be a long year for him.. if he plays how he showed up on fire at chisox then this would be a huge addition even if just temporary void to fill.

interesting drama for the yanks bosox rivalry nonetheless @)

^ A-Rod's days of putting up numbers is gone. Can't stay healthy, can't hit for power.
The steroids took their toll on his body.

I feel very badly for the Yankees who have to pay him so much more :)

A-Roid is about done playing in the field, he will be the primary DH for the next 5 years or whatever is left on that epic contract failure. He may get a few starts ar third in intra-league games in 2013, if he plays at all next year, but more at DH than 3rd. By 2014 the NYY will have a new regular 3rd baseman and A-Roid will play the field about as often as David Ortiz.

I knew Youk would take this deal, hard not to take this overpay. I don't see the Yanks winning more than about 85 games in 2013. They now have 40 million just at 3rd base ! LOL

just what they need another washed up old 1stbasemen

just one year and he's there to play 3rd not 1st, they didn't have a ready guy to fill in, sort of a desperation signing and overpaying for one year for a so-so aging player.

I;m sure he has a no-trade clause in there, no way he goes to any NL team...he;s a DH now.

He's a worthless player with a HUGE contract.

Would anybody want him at whatever the minimum is for a veteran ?
