Marquee free agent Josh Hamilton has signed a five-year deal with the Angels. Will he lead them to the World Series?

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels confirmed Thursday that Hamilton agreed to a contract with the Angels. Multiple sources have confirmed to ESPN that the deal is worth $125 million over five years.
Texas had hoped to re-sign Hamilton, the 2010 AL Most Valuable Player. Speaking Thursday after a Rangers' holiday luncheon, Daniels was asked whether Hamilton had agreed with the Angels.
Daniels said "that's accurate" and that he had just been informed by Hamilton's agent.
Hamilton's camp had also reportedly met with the Seattle Mariners last week at baseball's winter meetings.
Hamilton, 31, has batted .304 in his big-league career, all but 90 games of it in Texas. He has provided big power in the middle of the Rangers' lineup, helping the team to World Series appearances in 2010 and '11.
Hamilton batted .285 with 43 homers and 128 RBIs in an inconsistent 2012 season that didn't finish well; a vision problem caused him to miss five games, he struggled offensively and committed a costly error in the AL West-deciding loss to Oakland.

Sick lineup...Trout/Pujols/Hamilton/Trumbo. Imagine if Wells and Morales show signs of returning to form. Their pitching is crap after Weaver tho

sounds fair enough, LAA isn't signing him until he's 42 like A-Roid.

Hammy is injury prone and a relapse risk, but the contract probably protects LAA from that.

The guy was going to get paid, no matter what.

I'm not sure I'd hire him for my team if I were a GM, but the guy can sure hit !

Awful deal. Too many years for so many question marks and their pitching is still atrocious. Can't win with JUST bats, not with how many loaded line-ups are in the AL. Not to mention, for a guy who has relapsed multiple times in the past, is LA really where such a volatile, addictive personality should be living and playing? Mark it. Within 4 months he will be wasted at a Lakers game.

Speaking to his addiction, I am sure Dallas was no picnic either. He has done wonders to come from where he was. I saw a piece not too long ago about his support system and how his wife will not even allow him to go to the gas station to fill up the car. She has to go with him. Crazy shit there!

Wasn't he caught in a photo just last year grabbin' asses and drinking beer at a club?

Not sure about the photo thing, but I remember something like that yes. Even that is a hell of a come back from where he was at his lowest. Guy was selling everything he had to get high at one point.

I'm all for Hamilton trying to fix himself and he seems, for the most part to be really trying and I commend him for that. But if all 5 years of this are guaranteed, I still believe the Angels fucked up.

I didnt want him back after he basically quit on us last year. He is a hell of a baseball player but he is selfish as hell, or he was in his kast year here. He is a drama queen. Wait till you hear him do interviews, he is dumb as shit. Oh, and he cant hit lefties and offspeed.....all that said, im still glad he is gone, but not happy with where he went for the short term reasons. Ill make a wager he does something really fucking stupid within two years, any takers?.....ok, im through bashing. He signs more autographs for kids at games than anybody ive ever seen, he is grest with the kids.

With all due respect, the Rangers were dog shit before Hamilton came to town.

Not sure what AL lineups are loaded that there pitching is gonna hold them back? Tor not really, Bos, no, NYY to old, fragile? so only the tigers who also only have 1 guy to pitch.

This lineup has 3-4 of the top 10 favs to win the AL MVP
