[h=1]Stock reports for bowl teams[/h][h=3]Which teams will rise, fall or stay even in 2013? A prediction for all 70[/h]
By Phil Steele | Special to ESPN Insider
A lot can happen between now and next August -- and, for that matter, between now and when I release my annual preview in May. But I thought I would take an early look at the 2013 season and give an up, down or even stock report for all 70 bowl teams.
Nevada's stock: Even
QB Cody Fajardo and RB Stefphon Jefferson return, but the Wolf Pack's nonconference schedule features UCLA, Oregon and Florida State.
Arizona's stock: Up
The Wildcats lose QB Matt Scott, but RB Ka'Deem Carey is back and the defense will be improved in the second season under Rich Rodriguez.
QB Terrance Owens and RB David Fluellen will be back, and the Rockets host defending MAC champion Northern Illinois.
Utah State's stock: Down
Tough to follow one of the best seasons in school history -- and it takes a step up to the Mountain West.
BYU's stock: Up
The Cougars' schedule next season is daunting, but so was this season's slate. Four of the Cougars' five losses were by a touchdown or less.
SDSU's stock: Down
Rocky Long is doing a great job, but you have to feel that the cross-country travel in moving to the Big East will hurt.
Ball State's stock: Even
I have underestimated Pete Lembo each of the past two seasons, and the Cardinals return QB Keith Wenning and RB Jahwan Edwards.
UCF's stock: Down
Central Florida takes a step up in competition and does not have much to play for with a bowl ban.
East Carolina's stock: Even
Ruffin McNeill is doing a great job, and with the return of QB Shane Carden and RB Vintavious Cooper, the Pirates will be among the Conference USA favorites.
Louisiana-Lafayette's stock: Even
The Ragin' Cajuns figure to be one of the favorites in the Sun Belt. Mark Hudspeth may be coaching a BCS team in 2014.
Washington's stock: Up
The Huskies will be one of the most experienced teams in the country, and their defense made huge strides this season.
Boise State's stock: Even
The Broncos will be much more experienced, but cross-country travel in the Big East may negate the improvement.
SMU's stock: Even
Its nonconference schedule is brutal with four Big 12 opponents, but you can never doubt June Jones.
Fresno State's stock: Up
QB Derek Carr returns, and the Bulldogs are clearly the favorites in the Mountain West.
Central Michigan's stock: Even
The Chips made strides down the stretch and, despite coming back with less experience next season, should make it to another bowl.
WKU's stock: Up
New coach Bobby Petrino should benefit from Willie Taggart's recruiting. Plus, the Hilltoppers could have won more games this season.
Bowling Green's stock: Up
The Falcons lose two of their best defenders, but everyone else returns, along with all their skill-position players on offense.
SJSU's stock: Down
Losing a great head coach and trying to follow up one of the best seasons in school history will be a daunting task.
Cincinnati's stock: Down
New coach Tommy Tuberville will inherit a less-experienced team and will have to install new schemes.
Duke's stock: Even
The Blue Devils lose several key players, but the program is definitely on the rise under David Cutcliffe.
Baylor's stock: Down
The Bears will lose several key skill-position players for the second season in a row. But never bet against Art Briles.
UCLA's stock: Even
The only way to top back-to-back Pac-12 South titles is to win the Pac-12 overall -- and I'm not sure if I can take the Bruins over the Ducks.
Ohio's stock: Down
QB Tyler Tettleton and RB Beau Blankenship return. While the Bobcats disappointed down the stretch, they suffered a lot of injuries on the defensive line.
Louisiana-Monroe's stock: Even
It will be tough to top one of the best seasons in school history. With QB Kolton Browning back, the Warhawks are a rising program under Todd Berry.
Rutgers' stock: Down
Rutgers will have heavy personnel losses on the defensive side, including LB Khaseem Greene, along with a tricky nonconference slate.
Virginia Tech's stock: Up
QB Logan Thomas returns, and prior to this season, Frank Beamer led the Hokies to at least 10 wins in eight straight seasons.
Minnesota's stock: Even
The Gophers once again have an easy nonconference slate, and their offense will be improved under QB Philip Nelson.
Texas Tech's stock: Even
Kliff Kingsbury will inherit some talent from a team that underachieved this season.
Air Force's stock: Up
The Falcons were one of the least-experienced teams in the country this season, and Troy Calhoun always has them in a bowl.
Rice's stock: Even
The Owls impressed down the stretch and return underrated QB Taylor McHargue.
WVU's stock: Even
The personnel losses will be heavy, including QB Geno Smith and all-purpose WR Tavon Austin, but many thought the Mountaineers greatly underachieved this season.
Syracuse's stock: Down
Doug Marrone has done a great job, but the loss of QB Ryan Nassib and step up to the ACC will be too tough to overcome.
Navy's stock: Even
The Midshipmen are back in a bowl for the ninth time in 10 years. With QB Keenan Reynolds back, expect much of the same.
ASU's stock: Up
ASU's nonconference schedule includes Wisconsin and Notre Dame, but the Devils should be improved in the second season under Todd Graham.
Oregon State's stock: Even
The Beavers lose some key players, but Mike Riley always has his group overachieving.
Texas' stock: Up
Sooner or later, the Longhorns have to get more production from their quarterbacks and talented defense, right?
TCU's stock: Up
The Frogs were one of the youngest teams in the country this season and should settle in nicely among the top-tier teams of the Big 12.
MSU's stock: Up
The Spartans lost five games by a touchdown or less and can't possibly have the same bad luck two seasons in a row.
NC State's stock: Down
The Wolfpack figure to be in transition next season with the loss of QB Mike Glennon and CB David Amerson -- and with a new coach.
Vanderbilt's stock: Down
You have to respect the job James Franklin has done. While the Commodores will be in a bowl for the third straight season, they won't match this season's win total.
Georgia Tech's stock: Up
The Yellow Jackets defense figures to be much improved while their offense will improve with QB Vad Lee getting more reps.
USC's stock: Up
The Trojans were this season's biggest underachievers and figure to be improved next season.
Iowa State's stock: Even
The Cyclones will probably be an underdog in eight games, but you can't count out Paul Rhoads.
Tulsa's stock: Even
You have to think the Golden Hurricane will benefit from SMU, Houston and UCF departing to the Big East.
Clemson's stock: Even
The Tigers' nonconference schedule includes Georgia and South Carolina, but the Tigers will welcome Florida State into Death Valley.
LSU's stock: Even
The losses on defense to the draft could be heavy, and the Tigers will have to travel to Alabama. Regardless, they are still one of the SEC's best.
Purdue's stock: Down
Purdue will lose a ton of experience and will have to adjust to new schemes. However, this team clearly underachieved this season, and Darrell Hazell is a solid hire.
Oklahoma State's stock: Up
The Cowboys will feature much more stability at quarterback next season. Plus, Mike Gundy led the Cowboys to nine or more wins in the four seasons prior to this one.
Northwestern's stock: Down
The Wildcats will return several key players, but the Big Ten schedule toughens up with games versus Wisconsin and Ohio State.
Mississippi State's stock: Down
Most of the winnable conference games are now on the road, and it plays Oklahoma State in a nonconference tilt.

Nebraska's stock: Even
QB Taylor Martinez returns, and its overall schedule is rather mediocre.

The Bulldogs will have to face LSU from the SEC West, but they have only three true SEC away games. QB Aaron Murray looks like he will return.
Wisconsin's stock: Up
Despite losing RB Montee Ball and in the first season of a new coach, the Badgers avoid Nebraska, Michigan and Michigan State in Big Ten play. They lost five games seven points or fewer this season.
Stanford's stock: Down
The Cardinal will suffer heavy losses on the defensive side, which has aided the Jim Harbaugh-David Shaw transition.
Northern Illinois' stock: Down
Even though QB Jordan Lynch returns, it will be awfully tough for a first-year coach to follow up a trip to the Orange Bowl.
FSU's stock: Even
The Seminoles will have to replace QB EJ Manuel, but I thought they underachieved this season.
Louisville's stock: Even
QB Teddy Bridgewater returns along with coach Charlie Strong, and the Cardinals look like the early favorites in the Big East.
Florida's stock: Down
I expect the Gators to win the Sugar Bowl, but it will be tough matching 12 wins next season, especially if many of their junior defenders declare early.
KSU's stock: Down
While Bill Snyder is one of the best coaches in history, it will be tough replacing a Heisman finalist (Collin Klein) and the heart and soul of its defense (LB Arthur Brown).
Oregon's stock: Even
Four straight BCS trips should be five with QB Marcus Mariota back, but the question remains: Will Chip Kelly be back?
Texas A&M's stock: Even
The Aggies will not sneak up on anyone next season, but they figure to be favored in 10 games.
OU's stock: Even
The Sooners lose QB Landry Jones and have road dates in South Bend and Stillwater. Regardless, they still figure to be Big 12 favorites.
Pitt's stock: Even
If coach Paul Chryst stays, look for the Panthers to match this season's record despite the move to the ACC. If he leaves, that will be tough.
Ole Miss' stock: Up
The Rebels were just a play or two away from huge upsets over A&M and LSU and figure to be improved in Hugh Freeze's second season.
Arkansas State's stock: Down
The loss of QB Ryan Aplin while having to learn a new scheme for the third straight season will take its toll.

After the best season in school history, the Golden Flashes lose their head coach and figure to take a step down.
Alabama's stock: Even
The Tide will be more experienced at every position besides the offensive line. Plus, they host LSU.
Notre Dame's stock: Even
The loss of Manti Te'o will hurt, but expect the Irish to be much improved on offense next season. Also, they host USC and Oklahoma.
