What do you think about getting the vets coming home from mid-east jobs at the schools policing them 2 guys to a school and pay them a salary to live on better than returning home to no jobs
what are your opinions on that

have them just packing a 45 im sur that will keep people second guessing

I actually think thats a pretty good idea. The way the economy is it's really hard for these guys to find work. And I do think it will keep people second guessing. The problem is the school systems can't even afford to pay their teachers right now so I don't know how they would pull it off.

Why do you assume vets coming home from deployments are out of the military? My first deployment was in 2004 and I'm still active. Do you mean vets that are now separated?

I want to caution you about something. A lot of vets are suffering right now from PTSD. Just a thought.

Even though I agree your solution sounds decent enough, I am not sure that this would "solve" much of anything other than skirt the problem into different areas.. would it prevent some problems.. yes.. and it would surely discourage people from doing things.. but if someone does go into a school they could be shot by one of these guys by mistake and/or these guys could also become casualties in a serious shooting with bullets flying everywhere... I highly doubt 2 guys with guns will stop much, other than the killer would assume they might have to be killed first if they have plans to enter the school.

just my opinion on this.. I dunno how to solve it to be honest.. and their probably is no "real" solution.. we can only prevent things from happening which is why you suggested the option u did...

I got news for you apparently, Returning Vets are 1 of the 1ST people they want to ban from owning guns.

I would agree with this.

Most of our returning vets have seen what first responders saw in that school in Newtown more than once.

This is not a good idea for more reasons than I care to name... Start a neighborhood watch and take responsibility for our own

This would be a fine idea for a private school where parents pay tuition , but most public schools systems dont have the budget for privatised security.

...And remember , this isnt a gun control issue or even a security issue. It's a mental health issue.

Where I work we have some of these vets that work security and these guys are idiots, I know that are specialized people in the military but the majority of these guys getting out I wouldnt let guard my dog.

Book falls off desk, hits floor, makes loud noise.

Soldier with PTSD reacts.

Not a good idea!

Nope. Several factors contributing to Sandy Hook and having access to a Bushmaster is one of them.

Here is an original idea. How about we have the police do their fuking job?

I would like to know where this crack police force was while this was going on. Were they at the donut shop or out writing parking tickets.
It's not like this scernrio where someone goes into an elementery school and shoots up the place is new. Since Columbine, since 9/11 this has been a concern. Long before Sandy Hook you could not pass an elementery school in my town without either seeing a police cruiser or a cop doing crossing guard duty.

Yea, take guns from law abiding citizens and let the police protect us.

The cops arrived within 1-2 minutes of the first call. I read they have only four cops on duty during a shift at all times. It's a small town.

If you have only four cops on duty that means there's probably more schools than cops during a regular morning.
