Fed Ex just dropped off the settlement #. Does anyone know how much comes out for the fees and cost of classaction lawsuits.

Back story. Wife took birth control and developed massive blood clots in her lungs. Thought that she was having a stroke and took her to the ER 8 years ago. She spent 6 days in the hospital. Got out just in time to watch the breeders cup that year..

so anyway wife sees an add on facebook about the problems with the birth control she was taking. She sends an email and that started it all. Filled out some paper work and that was all it took.

Looking at the paper work she is going to get a very very nice chunk here.

So thats how our Christmass starts this year. WOW

here's hoping your wife's health is ok, regardless of a settlement. Life is worth more than money.

Thanks Man. She is doing fine. All but one of the clots are gone. Its such a pain in the ass she has to take a blood test every 2 weeks. She is going to be on kumenen (sp) for a very very longtime. She is great and a very strong woman. She's is my life.

$259,000 before the fees and cost. So if its 33% We might get close to $175,000. We are just going to put it in the bank for a few months and do nothing with it till the jolt of getting that money goes away.

We have been doing pretty damn good as we were. Now this is like found money so we need to be smart with it. Its a great start to being able to retire before we thought we could.

We will pay off all the credit cards and not charge anything else.

We for sure will just keep on keeping on and do what we have been doing with saving money every month.

Was there a long-term impact to her health?

Yes she has to be on drugs probably the rest of her life. She has to take a blood test every 2 weeks to keep a check on how thin her blood is. The threat is always there for more trouble in the future.

So yes this is a nice chunk of change here. But its not life changing money.

That doesn't seem like a whole lot of money for a serious long-term health issue.

I just got done reading this thread and I might be the boat rocker here but $259,000 for several years of health issues and having to take medicine and tests for the rest of my life isn't worth $259,000.

I'll be real honest the part that started my turn off is the part where you stated she got out of the hospital right before Breeders Cup that year. That made me think this guy put sports way up on his priority list and values money more then his wife's health.

Hope you get the money, because it sounds like you don't have it yet and we've all heard of these things going south and never seeing a dime.

If your wife is truly your life, you'll be using that money to pay for her blood tests and medicine the rest of her life.

Yea man, $259k would be awesome for a class action settlement if you bought a defective bicycle and broke your ankle once then it got better. Not for a serious medical thing that affects your wife for the rest of her life, and at best is a major hassle every 2 weeks! I'd suggest you consult the lawyers one more time

I guess this was my point as well. A company screws up your life forever and the payout is 259K. Think about it, most people can make that amount in about 3 years time. It's simply not worth it for a long-term illness.

I'd consult with a lawyer, take them to court and roll the dice on this one. Or, tell them to take the 259K and shove it and ask for about 500K. And I assume a company like Bare would write you a check for about 1M.

WOW well considering my wife is a bigger horse racing geek than me and while in the hospital I would bring her the DRF so she could read up on the horses to help pass the time. It was important for her to get out in time to watch the races in her own home.

Also this is like found money to us. We had no clue that there was any issue at all with the BC she was taking. No doctors ever told us of what the problem was. We just thought it just happened.

My wife is a healthy happy person and she is so used to getting bloodtest it does not fae her at all.

The money is just to add to our retirement. I just got a good job and the wife is a president of a company we are doing just fine. We are not poor and not esperate for the money so we will just settle and take the money

nice find TRS. I don't think you should shove the settlement back in their face, but it probably is worth a 15 min phone call to an attorney to see if there is anything more significant that may be obtained....we aren't talking pennies here
