[h=1]Beyonce to Get New C7 Corvette at Super Bowl[/h] Singer will serenade new model during halftime show.

by Paul A. Eisenstein on Dec.28, 2012

Beyonce will help launch the new C7 Corvette during the upcoming Super Bowl.

It’s easy to forget that there’s actually a football game going on during the Super Bowl, what with all the attention paid to the high-profile commercials and the big name acts that anchor the annual halftime show.
But Chevrolet is hoping that it can be a real Super Bowl stand-out despite General Motors much-publicized decision to yank its ads from the upcoming event. In a creative compromise with the NFL, the Detroit maker plans to place its all-new 2014 Corvette on the 50-yard line during the halftime show and present it to this year’s celebrity performer Beyonce, sources tell TheDetroitBureau.com.
Auto News From a Source You Trust!

GM officials would not confirm for the record their involvement in the 2013 game, Chevrolet spokesman Mike Albano only noting that, “We’ve got a history of being involved with the Super Bowl.”
That involvement was originally set to end, however. Last May, former GM global marketing czar Joel Ewanick announced that, due to rising costs he called unjustifiable, the maker would not advertise during Super Bowl XLVII.

Ewanick, who built a reputation as a marketing maverick, also pulled GM’s advertising off Facebook immediately prior to the social media site’s closely-watched IPO. Some experts believe that move played a significant factor in Facebook’s unusually poor performance after that initial stock offering.
Since then, GM officials have signaled a willingness to rethink some of the moves made before Ewanick’s controversial ouster. A return to Facebook is reportedly under study though, until now, there had been no indication the automaker would return to the Super Bowl fold.
Part of the problem has been the steady rise in pricing, a 30-second spot expected to net around $4 million this coming year. But the other problem is that the game is now overloaded with other automotive advertisers, making it more difficult for a company like GM to stand out.
Over the years, the Detroit maker has sought out alternatives during similarly “noisy” events, such as placing some of its vehicles on the field during previous Olympic opening ceremonies.
While technically such product placement wouldn’t be considered advertising it is nonetheless a potentially effective marketing technique, especially if it gives a product like the all-new Corvette a link to a high-profile pop star like Beyonce who, GM sources report is expected to get to keep the sports car .
A well-placed insider noted that a one-off version is in the midst of being all but hand-built for the event.
The seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette – known to aficionados as the C7 – will make its formal debut at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. The maker has been keeping a tight wrap on details, though a few details have begun leaking out.
(For a look at top-secret renderings of the new C7 ‘Vette, Click Here.)

Among those GM has confirmed, an all-new LT1 V-8 engine is expected to produce 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque – which would make it the most powerful “base” Corvette ever and the fastest, with 0 to 60 times expected to come in at under 4 seconds.
That could get Beyonce out from the sidelines to midfield in record time.

[h=1]Expect Beyonce To Grind On A 2014 Corvette During The Super Bowl Halftime Show[/h]

Travis Okulski

The Super Bowl Half Time show is known for nipple slips and, more recently, elderly rockers trying not to offend anyone. In 2013, Beyonce Knowles — of Destiny's Child and married to Jay-Z fame — will be the halftime performer. And while she'll probably have an elaborate stage, she won't be singing to a bevy of male models.
According to one source, she'll be singing to Detroit's newest sports car: The 2014 Corvette.

The plan is to place the Corvette at the 50-yard line during the halftime show according to The Detroit Bureau, where it will then be given to Beyonce "So Crazy In Love" Knowles, free of charge.
This will be GM's way of advertising in the Super Bowl, as earlier this year theydecided to have no ads in the game at all. At $4 million for 30 seconds, it is an expensive endeavor.
But placing a Vette on the field and giving it to a singer that will, honestly, probably never drive it, isn't cheap either. The half time show is a killer time to get some exposure, so we expect that GM will still be paying out the nose vents for it.
I have no idea if Beyonce, who has an affinity for Porsche Design items, will like the Vette or if she'll decide it's some sort of holla back girl.
What's that? She didn't sing that song? Oh. Well, we've been listening mostly to Solange lately.

[h=1]2014 Chevrolet Corvette renderings leaked[/h]

<time title="December 27, 2012 2:00 PM" datetime="2012-12-27T14:00:39+00:00" pubdate="">December 27, 2012</time> <cite> By Nick Jaynes </cite>

Corvettes have long been known for being technologically behind the times. Although rudimentary, these new renderings seem to change the Corvette’s Stone Age story.
Last week, a few low-resolution images of the front end of the 2014 Corvette were leaked. We didn’t jump on the re-posting bandwagon because, frankly, we didn’t think a black and white line drawing of a Corvette front end with its wheel off was all too exciting. This week, however, a bit more has been leaked and we’re quite excited.
As you can see, the side profile looks distinctly like a Corvette, but the backend is a different story. Thankfully, the designers at Chevy have updated the rear-end for the first time in, well, nearly four decades. In fact, we’re seeing lines in the back of the 2014 Corvette very reminiscent to the Chevrolet Code 130R Concept car that went on display at this year’s Detroit Auto Show in January.
The photos, which are from a service manual, first appeared on Corvette Forum, and while they’re convincing, we can’t confirm their legitimacy. Based upon the detail, however, we’re quite certain they’re dead-on. Just in case, we contacted a GM representative for verification. They were unwilling to comment at this time.
What’s most exciting for tech enthusiasts like us is the image of the center information screen. The screen image suggests that the new Corvette will offer the driver vehicle information like never before. With track times, G forces, steering angle, traction control read outs, miles per hour, and more, the Corvette seems to be stepping away from its low-tech past.
A Chevrolet produced teaser video also shows that the new Corvette will include a customizable digital instrument cluster.
The official release of the 2014 Corvette is set for next month on January 13th at the Detroit Auto Show. As soon as more is known, we’ll be sure to bring it to you.

The conspiracy theorists have been silenced, the next Corvette, scheduled to go on sale in the latter half of next year, continues to be powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Chevrolet today confirmed that the displacement of the C7 Corvette's engine remains the same as before, though power and fuel economy have both been improved. The 6.2-liter will deliver 450 bhp and 450 lb.-ft. of torque – Chevy says the latter figure is "comparable" to the LS7 engine presently found in the Corvette Z06. This will be the quickest "standard" Corvette ever built, with a 0 to 60-mph time estimated at less than 4.0 seconds.

More Power for Less MPGs
The web has been buzzing about the possibility of Chevrolet adding a turbocharged V-6 to the Corvette range, in a bid to boost economy and lower curb-weight without sacrificing performance. We speculated the C7 Corvette might use a smaller displacement V-8 engine, versus the 6.2-liter unit that carries over from the C6 to C7 edition. Chevrolet does point out that the latest small-block now features direct injection and active fuel management – which is nice, if not quite as catchy in a banner headline.

Exact economy figures have yet to be released, but Chevrolet promises the new LT1 engine will exceed the 26-mpg highway average of the current C6 Corvette. Emissions have also been reduced, by as much as 25-percent during cold starts. For you trivia buffs out there, the first small-block V-8 debuted in the Corvette in 1955. It had a displacement of 4.3-liters (265 cubic inches) and pushed out a total of 195 bhp.

Chevrolet says many of the engine advancements came about thanks to its C6.R race car, which competes in the American Le Man Series GT Class. "The engine requirements for a production car and a race car are remarkably similar," said Jordan Lee, small-block chief engineer and program manager. "In both cases, you want an engine that is powerful and efficient, compact and lightweight, and durable."

<figcaption></figcaption> </figure>

As a point of comparison, the LT1 engine is now 40 pounds lighter than "a competitor's twin-turbo 4.4-liter, DOHC V-8 with similar output," according to Chevrolet's press release. We'll give you a hint; the mystery competitor is German and has a three-letter name, with the first a `B' and the last a `W.' The lighter engine is nestled into a Corvette platform featuring a longer wheelbase and, as a result, the C7 Corvette has a "near perfect" 50/50 weight balance front and rear.

New Corvette bursts onto the road after 9 years

By TOM KRISHER, AP Auto Writer | January 13, 2013 | Updated: January 13, 2013 7:01pm

DETROIT (AP) — When General Motors engineers and designers started work on the next-generation Corvette, they drew up the usual requirements for the star of American muscle cars.
Killer looks. Big engine. Handles like a race car.
But topping the list back was something at odds with the roar of the car's big V-8: Gas mileage.
The new Corvette could not be a gas guzzler. Stricter government rules were forcing a leap in fuel economy. If the car burned too much gas, it would trigger fines from regulators and never get built.
"There won't be a Corvette if we don't care about fuel economy," said Tadge Juechter, the car's chief engineer.
But the 2014 Corvette is here, the first all-new version in nine years. The king of American sports cars, driven by astronauts and celebrated in a Prince song, rolled out Sunday night in Detroit. It will arrive in showrooms this fall.
To many fans, the new Corvette symbolizes the rebirth of America's auto industry after its near death in 2009, showing the world that it again can lead in technology, styling and performance — at a lower cost that European competitors.
Getting there was tough for the 1,000-member Corvette team, which gave the car the code name "C7." GM's bankruptcy slowed development twice. With each delay, new safety and gas mileage regulations forced changes. The Corvette team overhauled the car: aluminum replaced steel, super-light rivets held parts together, and the V-8 engine kicked down to four cylinders at highway speeds, saving fuel.
All the changes helped it overcome nine years of government crash safety requirements that could have bloated the car. But even with the lighter materials, the regulations have pushed its weight to a little more than the current base model's 3,200 pounds. Still, it's an engineering achievement. The Corvette is so new that it only shares two parts with the current model.
GM said testing is still being done on the car's fuel economy, but it'll be better than the current base model's 16 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway. Juechter said the window sticker highway mileage won't reach 30 mpg, but he wouldn't be surprised to see some drivers get that or more.
The car's usual buyers — men in their mid-50s — will also notice dramatic changes on the outside of the two-seat car. The hood slopes low to slice through the wind. All the vents and scoops have functional purposes like cooling the brakes or transmission.
On the back, designers took cues from the1963 Corvette, with a sloping roof that tapers toward the bottom. The car has a small Stingray badge on each side, complete with gills. And there's a more modern rendition of the Corvette's crossed-flag logo.
A 6.2-liter small-block V-8 with 450 horsepower takes the car from zero to 60 mph in under four seconds. That's at least a few tenths of a second faster than the current base model.
Engineers also redesigned the somewhat-chintzy interior, giving it a jet cockpit look with leather, carbon fiber and soft plastics.
GM hopes the styling, performance and updated dashboard electronics will expand the car's appeal to younger buyers. The Corvette's been a favorite of adrenaline junkies for 60 years. Mercury astronaut Alan Shepard owned one from the first year — 1953.
The company won't quote a price on the 2014 model. But Juechter said someone who bought the current version can afford the new one. The Corvette starts at $49,600. That is more than $30,000 below what GM considers its chief competitor, the Porsche 911. The car makes a decent profit for GM despite relatively low sales, Juechter said.
GM wouldn't give sales targets for the new car. Last year it sold only 14,000 of the aging Corvettes, down from over 30,000 the first few years after the current version was rolled out. Porsche sold about 8,500 911s last year.
The prospect of a new 'Vette has fans waiting anxiously, browsing the Internet for unauthorized photos or drawings. Thousands of aficionados live in the U.S., and even Europe and the Middle East.
John Browning, 70, president of the Renegade Corvette Club of Hollywood, Fla., one of 600 such clubs in the U.S, said some Corvette lovers can't contain themselves.
"I've got one member, he just sold his '13 in anticipation, to wait for the '14," said Browning. "I think the Corvette is the icon. As far as I'm concerned you can't get a better deal."

So, the Baltimore Ravens won SuperBowl XLVII… congratulations to them. And Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).. congratulations to him.
As expected, the MVP was awarded a 2014 Corvette… so after throwing over 300 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, Flacco <del>is</del> will be the lucky owner of the 2014 Corvette Stingray come Q3 of 2013.
PS: Beyonce didn’t disco all over the C7, and is it just us, or did The General and Chevy get not nearly enough exposure for the giveaway as they should have?

This is the best photo we could get our hands on… for now.
