What kind of music do you like?

Is it the same genres/artists you liked growing up?

I like a lot of Rap/Hip-hop growing up. Good stuff like Big L, Pac, Biggie, NWA, Dre....
Can't really listen to much new hiphop/rap it all sounds terrible....

Big L, The Big Picture is the best rap album of all time IMO.

Nowadays I find myself listening to a lot of oldies, classic rock and classical music. Great Stuff.
Guess I was to young at the time to appreciate it back then...

I listen to a lot of genres... Mostly hip hop, punk, and classic rock... The one thing I look for is good lyrics. I love artists like propagandhi (punk), the coup (hip hop), and Dylan (classic rock). They sound nothing alike, but they do the same thing well.

Also started off with hip-hop (wutang, biggie, big pun, tupac, etc) through HS and outgrew it. Still enjoy good hip hop beat every now and then but cant stand the lyrics nowadays. Overall i have grown to dislike lyrics in general therefore i only listen to electronic music..mainly house.

Mostly what i guess is considered "alternative". Things like Billy Talent, Rammstein Pearl Jam, City And Colour to name a few.

No jazz fans in here?

I play in a jazz group, so am a big fan of 1930's -> 1960's jazz. Used to play in rock groups, so like classic rock, and was classically trained.

Hate rap and heavy-metal.

Like some country and pop.

Hey FZ, could a guy pick up right now and take piano lessons and do well if they are committed?

How long would it take if they put in the work to become proficient?

There are a lot of factors, like the musical knowledge coming in? Do you play another instrument? After taking piano lessons for 10 years, I was able to pick up the guitar really quickly, but I had all the music theory and piano knowledge going in...

It also really depends on how you enjoy it once you get plugged into lessons, because obviously if you start taking lessons and find that you are moving along and progressing, and enjoying it, you're going to learn faster than if it becomes a chore to put the practice time in.

I'd say, try it out and see if you enjoy it.

I always advise people that if they are going to buy an electronic keyboard that they should make sure it is 88 keys and weighted.

Yeah, I have no musical knowledge nor do I play another instrument. I just wanted to try something out and see if I can do it with some dedication.
