I am no computer wiz by no means but how can this happen? I have all my work saved under word documents and my computer went to configurate and reload or something as it shut down as I was online.. Well I went to save a document I had typed up after this happened and every single file I had saved was gone.. Anyway to recover this??? These are very important documents!!!

Just a guess as certainly no expert here myself but.....maybe its changed the name of the folder where the files are kept?? Try searching for the doc by name or search (for example) *.doc....thats the * key above the 8 on ur keyboard, should return all docs on ur computer

Goto system restore - (Start/ Accessories/ System Tools/ System Restore ) and restore to an earlier date (yesterday, last week..etc) u will lose the very most recent thing more than likely the further u go back.. but if u have a save point almost right before it "crashed"/"reset"/whatever then u wont lose much.

if u dont want to lose the document u currently still have u can save that to a usb drive and then do this stuff.. that way if u recover all the lost files, u can then add the new one back on through your usb drive.

Also if you think the files have just moved, you can simple try the search inside of explorer for windows....search for a file or something you remember in that folder...even if you search generically for ( *.doc ) it will pull up all document files in the area you are searching (choose whole computer or C drive if you only have one drive for data)

System Restore will only recovery system settings, like registry settings. System Restore will not recover data/deleted files.

I use a program called Rollback Rx that takes a snapshot of my system, so if I ever need to go back and undo something, everything will be as it was when the snapshot was taken.

Windows system restore is junk.

There are great programs out there that recover lost data. a few years ago I accidentally deleted my documents folder. I would try software from wondershare.com. Use can preview what they locate and then if pay them if they find the documents you are looking for. Probably costs $60-$100.

Thanks, I lost all my documents in Word/Excel and all my pictures and music! I have to think there is some way to get this back, so I will look into this! Why my computer just deleted this stuff beats me! But paying a 100 bucks to get everything back is worth it to me!

your right it wont recover data and/or deleted files.. however I had a feeling he just misplaced them.. moved folder elsewhere.. that is why I recommended he do that.. besides rollback rx can only be used if he had it in place Before this all happened.. so system restore was worth a shot imo.

I like True Image by Acronis better than anything for a complete snapshot

here is the data recovery from that company for free http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/7921047/Wondershare_Data_Recovery_4.2.0.0_Crack_by_Senzati.rar

make sure you have anti virus and do a restore date before trying this as with all torrents (this one is not a virus though as I downloaded and scanned it already for you :) )

You could go into your Folder Options and check the "Show hidden files, folders and drives" box and then go back to the folder and look for what was missing... worth a shot.

Yeah, I was more speaking of in the future, Rollback Rx is a nice safety net to have. I've used Acronis in the past as well and it is very nice software.
