If I understand correctly, Phil Jackson had all but agreed to come back to coach the Lakers after Mike Brown was fired... to paraphrase, I think he was contacted about the position, even linked to it by the press --- He told Lakers brass that he wanted a day or two to think it over and would get back to them with a final answer... Either later that evening or the very next day, after deciding to return to LA, he flips on ESPN and sees that D'Antoni has been hired.
Huge mistake, but, fun to watch.
