Daniel Day Lewis is the greatest actor I have seen in my lifetime. Absolutely incredible performance. If you look at the ridiculously broad range of roles he has played to perfection throughout his career, imo there is no one that can touch him. I also respect how he stays out of the celebrity game and is truly in acting to be a master of his craft.

Congratulations Daniel Day Lewis on yet another inevitable and well deserved Academy Award.

His range truly is unrivaled. As an example, Bill the butcher from gangs of New York and Abraham Lincoln literally couldn't be more opposite. And he plays them both flawlessly. A person unfamiliar with Daniel Day Lewis probably wouldn't even be able to tell that it was the same actor in both of those roles. And not because of makeup or costumes, but because of how differently he plays each one.

I also think that most actors bring some semblance of themselves into their roles. For example, by watching tom hanks, deniro, pacino, etc I feel like I have a small feel for who they are in real life, because little pieces of their personalities shine through. For Lewis, I have no idea who this guy is in real life because he dives so deep into his characters that it is impossible to distinguish any similarities between them. For me, that is what sets him apart.

How do you tell who's a good actor? If they are good in dramatic roles? Does DeNiro, Pacino or Lewis have a good range? I think they can mostly only act in serious type of movies. Hanks can be serious, funny etc etc. He can play any role.

Pacino mentioned in the same breath as DDL, come on...check his stinkers, HOO HA! IMO DDL has no peers, maybe Hanks...maybe, but most of his work is from the director (Gump) he just filled the role.
