Question about NBA OT replays?

Lately I have been watching a couple of NBA games that went to OT and the refs are now allowed to use replay to determine possession in OT. The question I have is are the refs allowed to take missed fouls into account in change of possession calls? I saw the exact same play in 2 different OT games called differently. In both instances the offensive player made a move to the basket and had his hand slapped by the defender yet the initial call in both instances was that the offensive team kept possession. On both replays it clearly showed the defender not touching the ball but also clearly slapping the ballhandler's hand which should have resulted in a foul. In one case they gave the ball to the defensive team, which I guess is the right call since no foul was called, and the other time they gave it back to the offensive team even though replay clearly showed the defender never touched the ball.

I know back in the day sometimes the refs would just award possession of the ball instead of making a ticky tack call and no one would complain because the defender got away with a foul and the offensive team kept possession but with the new replay rules are refs allowed to take missed fouls into consideration?

They probably just made the call off the wrong guy in that case. I do not believe they can ever call a foul that wasnt called before no matter what reply they use or when.

You are correct, its happened a bunch of times where they had to give the ball to 1 team even though it was clearly because of a foul.

Thanks, that is what I thought. I am assuming the NBA is praying this never happens in a close OT finals game on national TV where someone like Lebron hacks a hand but it is never called and replay clearly shows Lebron never touched the ball and the refs give the ball to the Heat. The replay just seems annoying if the replay clearly shows the offensive player was fouled and it cannot be taken into consideration on change of possession. Just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.
