Don't work for tips but try to be a good tipper provided the person is making a genuine effort to care.

I was once a waiter though when I was 18 or so.

Even though I have not done it a long time, I once worked wedding receptions at a Country Club for tips. Coat and tie dress for extra money and a great way to socialize. Bartending was never my speciality but wedding receptions did provide some much needed spending money.
