It means nothing. It's strictly a coincidence, but one of the quirks of us as humans is that our brains try and make patterns out things, even when no true pattern actually exists. Your mind has latched on to this one number that it believes pops up more than others, but it's just a matter of that belief triggering your sudden attention. Other number come up just as often, but you when you see them you don't take notice. For example, how many room numbers have you paid attention to lately? Probably very few, but because you believe "44" is somehow mystical, you suddenly pay attention when your brain scans something with those numerals.
In psychological terms it's called a "confirmation bias." It's very similar to how many people believe they make street lights go out when they walk beneath them.
