Went to 3 different Subway's in the last 2 weeks. Ordered the exact same thing all 3 times and got charged 3 different prices.

all franchises can charge what they want. Subway barely even enforces the $5 footlong promo sometimes..Turkey sub went up 4 cents today at the one I visit often.. yes 4 cents.. seems pointless but I guess 4 cents X 100000000 subs is a lot

Well I dont go to any other fast food places anymore. But back when I did I dont remember the prices being any different from one Burger King to the next or whatever other fast food place I use to eat at unless I went out of state up North or out West where prices were generally higher.

But I do remember going to NY in 1995 or so and remember all the fast food places were much higher up there then where I live except for one place.
That place was SUBWAY of all places. Only fast food place that charged the same in NY as Lousiana

McDonalds on the Interstate is more than in town.

Walmart charges different at different stores, superstores are cheaper

stuff costs more at the airport

no surprise to me on Subway, they aren't regulated like taxi rates

First of all, depending what state your in, the taxes can vary depending if you eat in or take out the order. There is also a difference(in Calif), if you have the sub heated or not. I had ordered at Subway one week and they didn't charge me a tax. A week later I ordered at Jersey Mike's Subs and they charged me tax. Normally I wouldn't have noticed but for some reason I looked at the receipt and saw I was charged a tax. I asked them why, and they said they didn't know my order was to go where there is no charge for a tax. If you have a heated sub, there is automatically a tax whether you eat in or take out. Now this is for the state of CA. only, and I guess it differs from state to state.

By the way, one of our local stations following up on a consumer complaint, found out that the alledged "foot longs" were ONLY 11 inches! Yes folks, size does matter! Maybe we can have some Rxer's can measure their foot long next order and see if they are really a FOOT LONG!

And here they are always trying to get you with the avocado for extra $$

the avocado charging extra is pretty standard jen.. its kinda like adding bacon or a 2nd meat because its so expensive.. not just another veggie.. but yes they should tell ya upfront!

As far as the size goes.. the Subway I visit measures them all coming out of the oven now.. I seen them and they make sure they have proofed and cooked to 12 inches... whats funny is the bread ingredients I dont think got smaller.. because they havent changed their supplier or anything so its possible that many people found 11inches because of the subway just under-cooking the bread or another lazy habit.

I once worked at a Subway, the bread starts out like a frozen hotdog, after proofing, all they'd need to do is give it a little stretch and pull to get it to 13+" before it is baked.

I'm guessing they are using the exact same ingredients -- just stretching the dough a little more to make it a foot.

The stores have to use specific supplies

take the black olives in a can

you have to buy them from Serco or a few other specific suppliers depending on your region....same for everything. All chains want a consistent product.

The big problem is them reducing the meat 25% when the sandwiches were already too bready.

When I worked there briefly, they had you cut the bread so it was in a "U" shaped channel when looking at it from say the short end of the sandwich. The meat kind fell into that "U" trough and it held the toppings nicely. Now they flat cut it , so it holds less stuff.

Subway gets worse and worse.

right about the U shape -- every time i eat there i tell the worker to take out some dough so there is a nice u shape
and then i have him put some olives and peppers in the u shape before putting on the meat --
that way things stay in place a little better.

They were picky about that, it was like their signature or something, now they just cut flat across.
