I heard on a radio sports talk show today that Kansas is bringing in 16 Junior College football players along with several high school recruits. Ole Charlie must be trying to save his ass with a quick fix of JUCO players. Anyway, got me thinking and did some research on schools bringing in the most JUCO players.

Really surprised at some and not so surprised by others needing immediate help.

Kansas (16)
Akron (13)
Fresno St. (11)
Hawaii, Louisiana Tech, Texas St., Idaho (10)
Arizona St. (9)
UNLV, Florida Atlantic, South Alabama (8)
Kansas St., West Virginia, Houston, BYU, Wyoming, Memphis, Utah (7)
Arkansas, Boise St., Auburn (6)
Arizona, Illinois, Oregon St., Cincinnati, Texas Tech (5)
Oklahoma, Georgia, California, Washington St., Kentucky (4)

Notice you don't see many of your traditional powerhouses with a lot of JUCOs. Most of the top programs are solid
enough to build through the high school recruiting process.

Kansas had no choice. They are the worst team in the Big 12, and have to start somewhere. Fat Charlie figures that even though he may get only two years out of these kids, if Kansas can win a few games, their High School Recruiting may improve.

Some of the more established schools will bring in 1, 2 or 3 a year but in most cases they are brought in
to be starters. Alabama's Saban has done a good job of bringing in guys who can play immediately. CB
Deon Blue, NT Jesse Williams from this year's team. Mt. Cody was a big success for Bama coming from
the JUCO ranks.

Got to be selective because there is a reason these guys had to go the Junior College route.

The obvious reason is that they could not pass entrance exams in the 4 year universities. That means that most of these kids are not real bright, seeing as it is so easy for an athlete to pass those exams. It is nothing like the exams that the "normal" students have to pass.
