With 'National Signing Day' almost complete, Alabama has "won" its fifth mythical recruiting national title in six years according to Rivals.com. We all know that recruiting rankings don't always work out, but a noticeable trend has occuried in the past decade. Nine of the past eleven teams to be No. 1 in Rivals recruiting rankings played for the BCS championship within three years, and eight won the title.

The Tide closed strong today signing 5 star DE Jonathan Allen (VA), 5 star DT A'Shawn Robinson (TX), 5 star LB Rueben Foster (AL) and 5 star TE O.J. Howard (AL). Add in 14 four star players to the 24 signees and Saban wraps up another stellar class.

I won't say Nick Saban is the best college coach in the country but he is the best organizer, recruiter in football today!

Kudos to Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels have become the story of national signing day closing strong with a No. 7 class. Hugh Freeze and staff signed the No. 1 rated recruit in the country in defensive end (Robert Nkemdiche, GA), the No. 1 receiver (Laquon Treadwell, IL), the No. 1 offensive lineman (Laremy Tunsil, FL) and the No. 1 safety (Tony Connor, MS). Add to those 5 star recruits a good class of 4 stars and 3 stars and the Rebels have one of their best recruiting classes ever. Damn strong by Freeze and assistants........

Button up Big 10

Urban Meyer was heard to say during warmups of the Alabama/Notre Dame game that Alabama would win handily. Meyer said he could tell by just looking at each team athletes. Well, ole Urban is out to get some big, fast, athletes at Ohio State and has gone nationally to do it. The Buckeyes always land the good players from the home state, but Meyer's has expanded this years class to a wider approach. Ohio State will bring in what Rivals has rated the No. 2 class from 12 states. Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, New Jersey, Missouri, Maryland, Mississipp and Indiana have contributed to the class.

Beware Big 10, Urban is serious.....................

Gus Malzahn closes strong

With the firing of Gene Chizik and bringing in a completely new staff, Gus Malzahn and new assistants did one hell of a job. Rivals has Auburn with the No. 10 recruiting class. Malzahn lost some commits to other schools but he also gained a few. I think Tiger faithful should be happy with the end result. One kid who has Malzahn smiling is JUCO quarterback Nick Marshall. Marshall is a little raw, but is a great athlete who can pass and run. Malzahn says the 6-2, 210 pounder can be an impact player for the Tigers this season. He has a strong arm, throws well and can run (mobile). I wouldn't be surprised with Malzahn's tutoring that Marshall opens the season as the starting quarterback.

Rivals rates recruiting bottom feeders

Buffalo, New Mexico St., San Jose St., South Alabama, Idaho, UTEP, ULM, Akron, North Texas, UMass
Eastern Michigan, UNLV, FIU, Miami, Oh., Army, Northern Ill., Arkansas St., Air Force, Utah St., Kent St.

I'm not picking on Eastern Michigan, but this is a school that averages about 4,000 fans a game. Ever
wonder why some of these schools don't drop down to Division II so they can be competitive. The high
school in my area averages over 6,000 fans a game.

USC scored the most 5 star recruits according to Rivals. What is interesting is that they only signed 12 recruits, and every one was either a 5 star or 4 star recruit.
