I believe they killed production in the second half of 2012.

Any problems with it ?

I think it is way overdue in the US.

No problems yet the are just rounding the total sales on cash sales only , not debit or credit as the penny doesnt matter for those transactions.

Needs to happen here in the US.

The USPS finally will stop doing mail deliveries and pick-ups on Saturday....about 15 years too late.

Just started this week

I thought the production was slated to stop about mid 2012.

They have to mint several billion a year in the US annually to keep up, at least ten per person, many people have thousands stored away in containers.

I'm sure it will work well in Canada.

The Canadian government is a bit smarter than the USA counterpart. We have the exact same coin as your Loonie ( Billions of them stored in vaults) but don't use it because we still have paper dollars.

The production of the coin stopped late 2012 i believe , the stores didnt change anything until this week with regards to removing the penny from purchase totals

The 1 and 2 dollar coins are great. A 5 dollar one wouldn't be so bad either I believe. Our new bills are so slippery ( plastic ) I really dislike everything about them.

I haven't seen one of those plastic polymer bills yet, seems like a decent idea.

I think Canada actually withdraws her old money, unlike the US. Your nickels for example used to be 100% nickel ( vs. the US standard of 75% copper, 25% nickel).....The gov't melts any of those that they get back.

You guys had the Loonie for years before adding the twonie and killing your $2 bill making $5 the smallest note. I think a dollar coin and a $5 bill is OK without the $2 coin, you should never have more than 4 of them in your pocket at one time and they aren't excessively weighty.

But how do you tip strippers at the titty bar ?

Doug, good question on the tipping....although there are some tittie clubs where the girls are so hot they won't take $1 bills!

Have you ever been behind an old (or older) man and he reaches in his pocket and pulls out 89 coins (of all denominations)? I always laugh at that.

Now, I do like carrying about 60 cents (w/ a few pennies). If I go somewhere and buy something that costs $1.03 and I don't have a nickel, 3 pennies, a dime (or any other change) and I have to break another dollor (or a $5 bill)...that item just cost me $2 (2 full dollars)...as the change will just get lost in the shuffle (put in my change tray in the truck or in my backpack, whatever)....but the "bill" was lost when I have to break it.
