Sources: Celtics contemplate Garnett trade

The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers are working on a trade that would send 16-time All-Star big man Kevin Garnett from the Celtics to the Clippers, multiple sources told FOX Sports Ohio late Friday.

In exchange, the Celtics would receive Clippers center DeAndre Jordan and reserve guard Eric Bledsoe. A second-round pick may also be involved, sources said.

The potential deal was first reported by Yahoo! Sports.

Garnett, 36, has a no-trade clause in his contract, but both sides presume he’ll waive it if sent to a contending team such as the Clippers. The Yahoo story also cited Garnett’s home in Malibu and friendship with Clippers guard Chauncey Billups as reasons Garnett might accept a trade.

In exchange, the Celtics would receive a young athletic center in Jordan, 24, and young capable point guard in Bledsoe, 23.

Bledsoe currently backs up All-Star Chris Paul with the Clippers, but many within NBA circles believe Bledsoe is talented enough to run his own team. The season-ending ACL injury to Rajon Rondo last month has the Celtics on the lookout for a starting-caliber point guard.

Rondo’s injury also opened the door for Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge to consider moving some of his other major parts, including Garnett and forward Paul Pierce.

Sources speculated if Garnett were to agree to a trade, the Celtics would then aggressively attempt to move Pierce before Thursday’s trading deadline.

Garnett is in his 18th season and averaging 15.1 points on 50-percent shooting and 7.7 rebounds. He said earlier this week Sunday’s All-Star Game in Houston will be his last. Garnett will start for the Eastern Conference.

Jordan is in his fifth year and averaging a career-high 9.0 points to go along with 7.3 rebounds.

Bledsoe is averaging 9.6 points and 3.3 assists off the Clippers’ bench. He has played in all 56 games, including 12 starts. This is his third NBA season.

The Celtics are 8-1 since Rondo's injury. That includes wins over Miami, the L.A. Lakers and the Clippers.

Are you kidding? This would be a great deal for the Clippers in so many ways.

I don't really like what the C's are getting in return but I would like to see KG get a shot to play for a ring if he wants it. I know him and Billups have been BFF forever so maybe he would take it.

For this year only. Only way it would work is if the clips win it all this season. I still don't think this is enough to get them past Miami. I guess your not as high on Jordan as I am

It would only work if they get a ring? So do you think every trade that doesn't result in getting a ring "didn't work" 7 teams have won titles in the NBA in the last 30 years, did all other trades teams made not work? Jordan is solid but he isn't the 2nd coming of Dikembe Mutombo or anything. KG would be perfect for LAC IMO.

Sure Miami and OKC are loaded and it will be tough to beat those teams, but putting KG out there in crunch time with Blake-CP3-Billups-Craw/Barnes depending on matchups is pretty damn scary. It would definitely do some work for them.

Jordan is a solid young big man but nothing more than that. He hasn't even been playing as much lately since Lamar Odom has gotten back in shape. I'd deal him for KG in a second.

While I'd like to see the Celts get a little more for KG, I guess considering his age and the fact he would only go to a contending team it is a decent haul.

Also it is rare someone compares Deandre Jordan to a HOF pitcher that was 1 of the best big game pitchers of his generation, so there is that also.

What are you his agent? lol.

im a believer that you don't trade youth for age unless it can get you a title. I don't think this does that.

I can't imagine any Celtic fan being upset about this trade

Bledsoe/Jordan are good young players but they aren't gonna be all stars or anything. Clipps are already 1 of the best teams in the NBA and getting KG would get them closer to winning the title. So you only make trades you think can guarantee you a title? I don't get that at all because it is impossible. Do you think Jordan and Bledsoe are going help LAC beat Miami/OKC in a few years or something? Those teams aren't going anywhere.

Obviously no rational Celtic fan would be upset with the deal (although some probably think the team has a shot since they are 7-1 w/o Rondo) KG is about to be 37 and the team isn't contending. Of course getting a few solid young guys is a decent deal but I'd do this deal everyday of the week if I was LAC. It is a no brainer.

I would move them past SA in the west with this deal and give them a very good punchers chance vs OKC/Miami.

I mean do the math man, LeBron is 28, KD is 24....Not like these guys are going anywhere. Should every NBA team just not trade for older guys for the next 5 years and say fuck it these two dudes are too good.

More than them 2 combined, I'll bet that for sure. Although I guess Bledsoe on the right team would have an outside shot with some injuries/weak conf at some point.

Good trade for the Clips... They could really use KG - leadership, great interior defender, and he can hit the mid-range which will give Blake more room to operate inside.

How much? This will pretty much ensure a lifelong internet friendship for us considering Bledsoe/DJordan are like 23 years old, lol.

This years appearance by kg would not count towards the bet
