So, I got the referal from a Taxi Company, took my physical and took the written test at the Taxi Authority. Now all I have left to do is take an 8hr class at the Taxi Authority and soon as I am done I can start working this weekened hopefully. On a side note, its pretty expensive to get a Taxi permit here in Vegas, its closing in on $300 out of pocket.

Cant wait to see how it goes, and Ill update any crazy shit I see and hopefully get pictures of haha.

do you have to lease the car from the taxi company or something? what kind of out-of-pocket expenses are related to that? and how does gas work? who pays for that?

Sort of, you have to work for a company out here, but you pay $16.00 a day for the cab, +0.20cents per ride, + gas, and if you pick up from the airport its like $2 per trip or something. But, you get 50% of what you drive +tips.

The expenses so far were for the doctors physical, background check, taxi license and the class.

hmmm, seems like a bit of a racket. it's going to be one of those things you'll have to get really good at and know how to hustle, establish different routes, that kind of thing. i think i've heard that some of the cabbies might own their own cars or get involved in some kind of direct relationship/partnership with a private owner of one of the cabs, maybe that's something you'll look into doing if you really get good at it.

Ya it covers everything, even maintenance, so its a nice deal if I can make some $$... But the gas prices are gonna kill me haha. Doesnt matter, Im not really into to make a lot of money, just get out of the house to shut the old woman up. Be nice to have some time away while still messing around with sports betting, which I love.

what kind of car will it be? hopefully it's something economical because you'll have to be running the AC most of the time too which really drains fuel.

you say now that making money won't really be that important, just to get out of the house.. but i bet your attitude on that will change once you do it for a day or two. you will want to start making more and more, it's just natural. and when you get into an inevitable betting drought, then even more so.

Do you actually believe running the AC uses more gasoline? It is worse for your mileage to ride with the windows down than the AC on.

I wouldn't think windows down would have much effect on gas mileage driving up and down the strip. Different story on the highway though

someone once told me that the A/C being on uses more gas....but how strong you make the A/C makes no difference on gas....so the guy that has it on low and the guy blasting it in his sweat get the same gas mileage

I don't know how the biz works but assuming you work 5 days/week....then every month you work about 20 days and the car + maint + insurance only costs you $320? That seems pretty low? is this cab fred flinstone style where you have to move it with your legs?

They get 50% of what I make, +$16, $0.20 cents per trip, $2 per airport pick up.... And there are about 2000 cabs here in Vegas lol... actually costs more then a cheap rental car

it's a fact that AC runs on fuel and people don't like the window down when suffocating 100+ degree heat comes rushing in.

It takes more power to run the compressor which powers your AC but the loss in fuel mileage is negligible at best. The worst thing for your mileage is stop and go traffic along with poor driving habits - see women constantly accelerating/braking.
