Where the WARM WATERS halt... Would be a natural HOT SPRING right outside of the city of TAOS (north of Santa Fe)
Take it to the Canyon Down, not far but to far to walk.... take route 64 north into the canyon to SIXMILE CREEK......

This is just a summary of my analysis. Where the warm waters halt is Glenwood, CO. Follow the canyon down (Roaring Fork River or HWY 82 – too far to walk). You end up south of Leadville, CO (birth home of Molly Brown) and you are now due north of Santa Fe. That’s all I will give for now. I’ll kick into the next part of the poem in my next

would a 80 year old guy, get in a car a travel more than 2-4 hrs one way from his home @ 1021 old santa fe trail new mexico ,carry a 45lb gold chest for some distance, feeling a little weak from that cancer beat,:think2: , i think its closer to his home based on that, i really don't think he flys any more, what about nambe lake - distance seems about right," home of the brown," , brown bear, big brown bat, Bison ??? mabey in a cave big brown bats on ceiling near a river wtf needle in a haystack bitches.

The chest is in New Mexico - Some searchers believe this to be an actual quote from Forrest. But apparently it is not. According to Forrest this quote is inaccurate. Forrest has tried to correct the writer’s mistakes and has often said. “I never said it was in New Mexico.” In fact, he has written and said, “The chest is hidden in the mountains north of Santa Fe.” Although Forrest has never said that it is in New Mexico, conversely, he has never said that it is not in New Mexico.
The chest is in the Rocky Mountains - Forrest has narrowed it down to the Rockies. Originally he simply said “the mountains”. Since then he has said “the Rocky Mountains”. It is not in the Appalachians nor the Cascades nor the Coastal Range nor the Sierra Nevada Range nor the Brooks Range. Wikipedia’s definition of the Rockies include only the mountains highlighted on the map below. This is the commonly accepted geographical region of the Rocky Mountains. Forrest would know this although he might be counting on us not to know it. Many people believe the Rockies extend into places geographers do not. The Rockies extend from Northern New Mexico northward to northern British Columbia. The Rocky Mountains do not exist in Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, California, Saskatchewan, Oregon or the Dakotas. It’s also important to realize that the lines where the Rockies end and start are fuzzy. Please keep that in mind if you start ruling out areas that are very close to the Rockies or because the first source you looked at said that such and such a range is not in the Rockies even though it is very close
Not in Nevada - Forrest has stated that the chest is not hidden in Nevada. But note that according to Wikipedia and commonly taught geography, the Rockies do not exist in Nevada anyway. So this is a “non-clue” from Forrest. Forrest hands out information from time to time that appears to be a new clue but in fact is not. Telling searchers that the chest is not hidden in Nevada is a prime example of a non-clue once we know that the chest is hidden somewhere in the Rocky Mountains.
