Thought it was going to be the radio call from the final 1:00 of the Indiana/Minnesota game this week.

A little disappointed junior.

I find it intresting that it took this speech to 'change' your life. Humanity has a very high opion of themselves in general, perhaps you were one of those individuals until you heard this 'speech'.

the first time I heard this speech changed my life

I wish for one day I could be half as smart as Sagan. When he talked to every day people I wonder if it was the equivalent of an adult trying to have a conversation with a child.

We are NOT start stuff by the way.

No, according to you Zappy the Wonder God poofed us into existence, right?

It just amazes me that seemingly intelligent people believe the nonsense in a book written by people who didn't know where the sun went at night.

But people will blindly believe what the government tells them? :ohno:

The idea that God is an oversized white male with a flowing beard who sits in the sky and tallies the fall of every sparrow is ludicrous. But if by God one means the set of physical laws that govern the universe, then clearly there is such a God. This God is emotionally unsatisfying... it does not make much sense to pray to the law of gravity.

"The whole thing is so patently infantile, so foreign to reality, that to anyone with a friendly attitude to humanity it is painful to think that the great majority of mortals will never be able to rise above this view of life. It is still more humiliating to discover how a large number of people living today, who cannot but see that this religion is not tenable, nevertheless try to defend it piece by piece in a series of pitiful rearguard actions."
--Sigmund Freud, on religion

This is one of my favorite anti-theist quotes. Freud nailed it...believing in a personal god is infantile.

I believe in intelligent design.

You believe in Zappy the non-wonder God, that isn't there but zapped some primordial swamp goo, and it turned into humans!

Actually, I didn't say it was dumb. I laughed that somehow that video was "the most powerful words ever spoken" that "changed his life."
