Said his coach Ben Howland after they beat Arizona tonight.

I get that he'll be a top five pick but this guy is not NBA ready. He's a very good player and has a bright future but the guy needs to stay in college and learn how to play the game a bit.

I hate the one and done rule. It ruins the college game a bit IMO.

He is talented enough to go and he should. Why do you want this kid risking his future by staying another year and possibly getting hurt. Look what happened to noel at uk.

I will agree that the one and done has destroyed the talent level in college basketball. A lot of these games are unwatchable.

With that said i dont want to risk ruining the lives of people because of my viewing pleasure.

Well sure, he'll be a lottery pick so good for him but he's simply not NBA ready right now. Hell, who knows, maybe 5 years down the road he'll be a solid NBA performer.

I guess if I'm a young guy like him I look at two things. Do I want to go to the NBA because I'm ready for the NBA or do I want to go because I need to get paid or is it both?

I think a year or two would do him some good.

Think a guy like K Irving is the exception not the rule.

I don't think you can play scared though just because you may get injured.

The topic came up a few weeks ago with J Clowney and discussions ongoing that he should sit out so he doesn't get hurt. He said "no way."

Plus, I think most of these top prospects have insurance policies that help guard against loss due to injury.

There's been a lot of guys not NBA ready that were drafted assuming that they would mature and develop and it never happened. Coaches think they can make anyone with raw talent great. I think the one and done rule hurts the arrogant kids more than college bball. It was always a boring game and still is. When they install a shot clock it might get good but until then its like watching idiots try to play chess. I've seen Shabazz play and I don't get any of the hype on this prick.

I think my buddy Jay Williams should've left Duke early and went on to the NBA. He would've never had that motorcycle accident that cost him his NBA carreer. Like him as an announcer but loved him as a point guard. Anyway this Shabazz kid is NO WHERE near ready for the NBA. The NBA will swallow him up whole. He is 3 years away from being ready maybe even more.

The NBA should allow players from high school to go pro. But if players go to college it should be two years minimum not one. Get rid of the one and dones, I think that would improve college basketball.

I agree 100%. And in 3 years time, what kind of NBA player will he be?

All about getting paid.

Probably one of the most selfish players in the history of basketball.

Because if he comes out a finished product then he may have a longer and more productive career in the NBA.

Dirk Nowitzki is the exception not the rule. Look at all that have come in early that have failed. Those guys far outweigh the successful guys.

Exactly. I still remember that classic Duke game, when Williams grabbed a defensive rebound, jumped on a motorcycle (without a helmet or motorcycle license), zipped through the doors of Cameron Indoor Stadium, rode all the way to Chicago's North Side, and then crashed into a streetlight.

Really --- what does the motorcycle accident have to do with leaving or not leaving college early?

He just as easily could have crashed a Mercedes. Or like that guy in Florida, swallowed by a sinkhole. Or shattered his knee during a Bulls practice.

Or he could have played 13 seasons for Chicago, with 4 All-Star appearances. Who knows. But crashing a motorcycle (*after* one season with the Bulls!!!!!!!!!!!!!) isn't exactly in the same category as Nerlens Noel, Marcus Lattimore, Sam Bradford, etc.

Shabazz has talent. He is all about himself however; and lacks the instincts of a complete player. He has yet to see a shot he can't take. At Bishop Gorman, I saw him go 12 minutes before making his first pass to a teammate. Much of the same has gone on in Westwood. He will be drafted, but will be taking a paycut. He needs two more years of basketball growth and mental maturity. When he pouts in the NBA about not getting the ball, let's see how the team & coach handle that.
