South Baltimore’s gambling parlor will hold a steakhouse, two other full-service restaurants and a Baltimore food “marketplace” that represents Charm City’s local flavors.

That’s according to Chad Barnhill, general manager of the $400 million Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore that will open at 525 Russell St. in the summer of 2014. CBAC Gaming LLC, a consortium led by Caesar’s Entertainment Corp. and Rock Gaming LLC, is spearheading the development of the 140,000-square-foot casino.

CBAC Gaming will own the steakhouse and will partner with two restaurateurs for the other two eateries, one of who will be a celebrity chef, Barnhill says.

“We’re having great discussions with a celebrity chef,” says Barnhill, who declined to name the chef since the deal has not yet been finalized.

The Baltimore marketplace will feature six smaller food outlets with a common seating area as part of a 20,000-square-foot food hall showcasingsome of the city’s most popular crab cakes, pizza and burgers.

“We want to really lease out the spots to Baltimore’s best. We’re working hard to be Baltimore’s casino by the offerings.”

The casino will break ground over the next several weeks, once it receives all of the permits, Barnhill says.

The two-story casino near M&T Bank Stadium will feature slot machines and table games and employ 1,700. Of those workers, 500 will work at the table games.

In November, Maryland voters approved the controversial measure to include table games at the state's casinos. The Hollywood Casino Perryville will feature table games March 7 and Maryland Live casino at Arundel Mills will debut table games April 11.

[h=1]A first peek inside the Horseshoe[/h]
[h=2]$442 million casino to open Aug. 26 in Baltimore[/h]

The casino floor at the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore. It will… (Lloyd Fox / Baltimore Sun…)

August 15, 2014|By Jeff Barker, The Baltimore Sun
A siren sounded loudly Friday inside the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, jolting reporters getting a first peek at thevast, $442 million development featuring more than 100 table games and 2,500 slot machines, including machines on outside terraces to accommodate smokers.
After the Aug. 26 opening, a shrieking alert might indicate a jackpot. This one was part of a fire-alarm test at the casino, Maryland's fifth.
"The joys of building and testing," said general manager Chad Barnhill with a smile as the siren continued to wail.

Barnhill was among the tour guides at the Caesars-operated casino, which features plenty of natural light, views of M&T Bank Stadium, a two-story video wall, a 25-table poker room, three restaurants and a "marketplace" with familiar Baltimore brands. A brick facade and street lamps mimic the city's look.
Some gamblers might be surprised that they can play slots — and smoke — on seven outdoor terraces equipped with machines. Two other terraces do not feature machines.
On Friday, rows of slots were lined up, but not yet operational, on a balcony overlooking Russell Street. The stadium is visible from vantage points inside the casino.
Casino patrons and Ravens fans will share some parking. Ravens season-ticket holders were invited to purchase parking in the casino's 3,300-space complex. The garage's third deck offers direct access to the casino.
Horseshoe, which says it holds the city's only 24-hour-a-day liquor license, bills itself as Maryland's only casino with outdoor gambling. The outdoor balconies will remain accessible even when the weather turns cold.
"It functions 24-7. We do have heaters planned for out there," Barnhill said. "It's moving in the direction where there's a customer base that would prefer a smoking environment. Where appropriate and allowed by law, we're moving in that direction to be able to provide amenities to all those guests as well."
On Friday, ladders and cables littered the floor. Many slots had a document taped to the front labeled "Game Installation Checklist."
The document included such items as "Install Cash Box," "10 Coin test," "Reel Rewards Test" and "Supervisor Verification."
"Game up for play" was the last item on the list.
Barnhill said the casino was far enough along that it "could open tomorrow" if need be. It will have a pair of controlled demonstrations to benefit charity on Monday and Thursday before opening the night of Aug. 26.

Centrally located in a 3rd world country. They took 500 slots from Perryville casino and moved them to maryland live. My guess is they will remove 1000 from the shoe.

from what I know of Bmore politics, the Maryland Live hasn't held up their end of the tax revenue... shocked...

think it's cool to have a casino in the middle of downtown. Hope this becomes more popular...

Cornish Co who owns Maryland live as well as all the other casinos are paying the state 63-65% off the slots of the gross revenue and its being monitored by the lottery. Revenue up, I think the # was 2% from last year. Great for the state, bad for the players but with their IQ in Bmore they don't know the difference
