These people are never right! Called for a light dusting of snow in Richmond today, but no real accumulation. Well we are at 5 inches and its coming down so hard you cannot even see the houses across the street from us. It seems they are wrong about 90% of the time. ##)

I think they just the "face" anyway.. they arent the ones actually making the forecasts.. they have teams of people and computers and they just report the info.

These are the dumb asses I'm talking about, not the talking heads. They have all this equipment at their disposal, yet they never get it right.

Well the "TV forecasters" are typically just the "out front" people and typically great looking females.

I just don't "get" how the forecasts from one outlet to another vary so much. In Philly right now we had one saying 1-3 inches, another saying 3-5 inches, one saying the storm was starting Wednesday morning, another saying Wednesday afternoon and here it is Wednesday night [and nothing] Heck we don't have the day of the week that it will "start snowing" pinpointed.

I have a conspiracy theory on all of this. That these "It's Gonna Snow pre-Game Shows" (you know, "coverage" starts at 4 AM just tune in here) do such great ratings that now even an "inch or two possible" has the TV stations blowing the horn and "hyping it"

They really blew it in Southern Ct this time.

They called for 3-6 inches starting around noon Wedsday, then they said it starts 6pm Weds, also calling for 50-60 mph winds, power outages etc.

well it's past noon on Thursday and nothing and barely a breeze.

I don't care much about a few inches of snow, but would rather miss it. The power is the important thing.

They should be more accurate, IMO

They should use the computers they use for weather predictions to put out sports betting lines.

They are usually right... people only remember when they are wrong. When they call for 50 and sunny, no one is saying hey thanks for the accurate prediction... the only times we hear about it is when they call for snow and they are wrong. Its an educated prediction, not a perfect science... you would think people on a gambling forum would understand that.

they constantly predict snow here, and schools are delayed as a result, it snows about once a year
but all everyone remembers is the one time they predicted a snow storm and it happened

These same people who develop these complex systems yet STILL cannot tell us what the weather will be 5 days from now, are trying to convince us exactly what the weather will be like 50 YEARS from now, how disastrous it will be, how it's only the fault of humans and how only a massive amount of tax revenue can help humans actually change the planet's weather.

They conveniently forget to mention that, for over 4 billion years, our moon has been slowly drifting away from the earth, our planet has been rotating on an axis, and our planet's core is over 6,000 degrees F, causing endless massive explosions at the surface, all which cause infinite more 'damage' than a bunch of temporary inhabitants burning dead dinosaurs for a couple of hundred years.

Yeah, it isn't an exact science. There are so many variables to consider when talking about rain and ESPECIALLY snow, that they can't be right all the time. To think so is just outlandish.

You should live in New England....They have been wrong all winter. Only time they were right was on the Blizzard.

Now I understand I don't live in Southern Cal where a monkey could do the weather...or that guy from "anchor Man" lol, but honestly they have been so wrong this winter.

They called for 3-5 inches in my area....I'm about to hit a foot and it hasn't stopped. Some forecasts are calling for another foot! Some are calling for it to stop in 2 hours...really?? How is it that big of a swing?

Anyway, came in this thread to bitch about this long ass winter not trash on the weatherman. I blew 6 inches off my driveway at 730am and I'm leaving work in about an hour to blow another 6 inches :(

I need a southern vacation badly!

I've always said they get $$$$ kick backs from grocery store managers and owners, when grocery stores sales/profits are down for the month/quarter they call all local T.V. stations and pay them to forecast bad weather so everyone will run out and buy groceries because people will act like their going to be snowed in for a month.

I know this really doesn't happen but you would think it does because every body got to have milk and bread if snow is in the forecast.

I've never had a milk sandwich so I don't get all the excitement.

They do that because it leads to bigger ratings...

I agree but in the south these people panic seriously like they're are going to be snowed in for months. They can forecast snow or a hurricane here and everybody leaves the house or work straight for the grocery store or Wal-Mart and buys up like the world is coming to an end.

Maybe not kickbacks from the retailers but it isn't too much of a stretch when these snow "pre game shows" get huge ratings to think that they'll be pressing the WINTER STORM WARNING/ADVISORY button whenever even two inches are forecasted.
