Any step dad's that can speak on their experience? 4th year into my marriage. The 1st 3 years seemed like they were the best as a family.
This past year I feel like I'm an outsider in my own home.

Being a stepdad is a thankless job man.

it gets worse,,, lol,,,

I concentrated on my hobbies, and giving them their time away,,, periodically asking them if they wanted to go see a game,, or grab a bite to eat alone,, I tried to never really to bust their balls,,,

they both are 19-22 now, and I think weve got a dam good relationship as they know they can trust me 100% to not judge them and help them figure things out,

cheers

Don't think for a minute those kids don't appreciate you being around. And if they don't now they will down the road. Trust me. Treat them like your own and try and talk in front of them at least.... as "your Kids" instead of your "step kids". If you wait around waiting for the accolades your going to be disappointed. Its not a job, its a role your providing for those kids.

How old are they? Age could very well be the reason. Parents do stop being cool for a while.

well said,,,, thats kindof what I was trying to say,,, after 4-6 years of being stepped on,lol,, with continued reinforcing of respectful arguements, and kind disagreements,,, they honestly see me as loving them as their parent,,

They are 15, 17 & 18 now. Came into their lives when the eldest was 12. I think the key is just consistency. I've been told that once by a girl who had a step dad.

Didn't mean to call it a "job". I do treat and acknowledge them like they're mine. Atleast it sounds like theres light at the end of all this.

Thanks
