I remember TRYING to watch it, when they have to constantly the clear snow to see where the field ends..........WELLLLLLLLLLL

Among the suggestions that we talked about in the bar was to take you guys to play in Limon at 100 F , 100% humidity where on top of everything, the US team will be mugged before AND after the game , we will see how you guys play when you barely have any shoes :p

LOL.

I thought Costa Rica played pretty well under some extreme circumstances. The officiating was horrible. In the end, the better team one. Costa Rica needs to continue to get its younger players involved. It appears they are heading in that direction which is positive.

I didn't realize that games were only to be played in 'ideal' weather. Didn't realize it was the USA's fault for continuing to play in the elements. It's not like the USA players didn't just play and lose in Caribbean climate. Then have to play in a snow storm. Only to then have to travel to a poor air quality with horrible humidity climate place this week. Please save me the bitching. Game are meant to be played out in the elements and if FIFA says that game can continue, then blame them. Home field advantage.

PS: Not sure if true but when the Refs called time out to discuss stopping the game. It was reported that both teams stated they wanted the game to continue. Costa Rica was on a full assault and had some chances to tie/pull ahead. Officiating sucked but it was probably impossible to see the majority of the fouls. Jones should of been at least shown a yellow card if not a red card for his elbow. Dempsey should of been given a penalty kick as well on an obv foul in the box. Next.

Good post. I agree, and not only because I'm gringo. CR is my second team for family reasons. The statements that CR players wanted to continue came from the US media. If you take it from the cryfest we saw during from the CR media and post game from media members and players (excluding Saborio), that's either false or the players showed themselves to be hypocrites.

It's hard to call that kind of weather a home field advantage. Nobody can be prepared for that. Now, the shithole turf in Tibas is a different story. Playing on Fieldturf is one thing, playing on FieldTurf used and abused by countless concerts and monster truck shows is another. Although, if I were in charge that's where I would play it and not in Sabana. Tibas represents everything about homefield advantage, Sabana not so much....too much space from the field to the bleachers.

US media is full of shit and if you believe everything they say my friend then I feel sorry for you. Game should have not been played. Period. You have to protect the players, and the game itself. And actually the reports from our federation's president is that the ref was going to suspend the game but then he talked to the FIFA official and wow is magic, game was played. You guys buy refs, and you are FIFA's little pet along with Mexico in the Concacaf area.

I don't get all the crying about the snow either, both teams played, and Bryan Ruiz being in the English premier league has place in the cold and ice along with a great many other elements. I am sure there was some good natured hissing and ribbing, but did the Yanks yell and scream and bang drums and send hookers (not that thats a bad thing) to the hotel of the Ticos before the game. As far as injuries please........children play in the snow all the time, elite world cup athletes are that tender and injury prone???? mae mae mae....puff_>>

I feel sorry for you. Do you really think the rest of the world stops professional soccer for snow? Do you realize how many A level leagues play in snow? Protect players from what? Protect the game from what? If you watched the match you would have seen the overwhelming amount of calls went against the US. You're a cry baby, but whats new... Buying refs and fixing matches started in Europe many decades ago, but none of that had anything to do with you losing to the US again. :ohno:

"Sorry for you, my friend". Spare me the pity and touch up the reading comprehension. All I did was state where that rumor came from. I never said I believed it, just like I didnt fall for the pansy excuses and down right lie that it had snowed 4 inches. Even after the game, the recorded snowfall was only a little over 2 inches. I get the pride in the team, but accept that not all the world has the perfect tico climate. Do I think that the US lobbied to keep the game going especially since they were winning? Hell, yes I do. CR would do the same here in the rain. I'm more likely to think that CR was lobbying to end the game, at least their officials. I like a good conspiracy, but you going there is laughable.

Im tico and don't follow soccer but there was another game that was suspended bbecause of snow, I think it was Russia vs Northern Ireland. So it does happen, games suspended due to snow. Having said that we ticos tend to cry too much when it comes down to the national soccer team and it feels like the whole country stops just for that which to me is annoying, only reason why I think that qualifying for World Cup is good is because of the economy boost this causes but it also means that politicians use this feel happy thing to impose taxes and stupid bills

Yeah, calling a match during the event is pretty rare (i tried to edit the original post, but i couldn't). Mostly games are called BEFORE due to weather conditions, but it happens jay6s. It was snow not lightening for gods sake, lol. Some of the teams I follow play in the snow all the time, but to be fair Ive never seen those conditions before. Hell, it looked like a lot of fun! Costa Rica actually played pretty well and its doubtful either team had any type of advantage. The officiating seemed slanted towards Costa Rica, but Id have to see that stat to be sure. I respect any country who has deep seated love and passion for its national team. Politicians suck, they're thieves who line the pockets of government. Little minded internet tough guys also suck.

Russia vs Northern Ireland was suspended do to snowfall from the previous night. They also had the luxury of not having to play another game within the next 4 days, so while they did postpone it to the next day, they still couldn't play it because the field wasn't in good condition. While I see the obvious similarities, they are also some differences. At the start of the game, the snow fall was pretty minimal. They did know they were racing against the clock, though. The storm projections were for it to be far worse later into the night and the next day, so there really wasn't a good possibility of playing that game the next day. Plus, the whole point of playing in Denver was to prepare for the Azteca's altititude on Tuesday. What national team is going to want to postpone it's game and lose a days rest right before it has to play in the most difficult stadium in the world. As I understand it, FIFA calls the shots pre-game....from there it is the ref's job. If they were going to suspend it, it should have been then and there and not after the game has been played halfway, where one team has the lead. That would have been very convenient for Costa Rica. Again, I paint a picture. If any national team, let's just say Mexico, comes here and they start the game in a drizzle. Costa Rica scores early and leads 1-0. Now sometime in the second half, it begins to rain heavily like it does here. Does it impede the "normal" flow of the game? Yes. But none the less, it is playable (and both teams play in the same conditions, not like it's a huge advantage for one team) and I know for a fact they have played a lot of games here in the rain. Now, if they decide to postpone that game forcing a restart of the full 90 minutes at 0-0, what scale would that national outrage reach? I feel quite confident it would be far greater than it is right now.

I hope they play this game in La Cueva. I want Costa Rica to do well and to make the World Cup.

Went over to BAR CENTRAL ESCAZU last night to check it out. It's a typical Tico bar with great prices.
Glen (TOT) and I where the only Gringo's in the joint. Mike is awesome and I wish him the very best of luck!

Totally agree with you S & S. Growing up in the Midwest we played soccer in the snow several times from youth to the college level. The EPL plays in extreme conditions at times, and plenty of Latin players earn their pay checks over there, and hefty ones at that. They don't seem to mind getting paid millions of dollars with the potential to have an occasional game in weather they aren't used to.

The US never uses excuses like "oh it was too hot for us" when they play in Barbados, T & T, etc. These are professionals we're talking about, they prepare for the elements.

I'm not a Sele hater either, living in CR so long and being a soccer fan I support them in every game except when they face the USA.

much to do about nothing if you ask me. Costa Rica actually were unlucky to not get at least a draw. I bet it was fun for the players to play in and Costa Rica probably would have lost by more than 1 goal if it was ideal playing conditions.

I keep hearing about the big game between the States and Costa Rica. Sorry to both sides but I have a better chance of beating Cain Velasquez in the octagon than EITHER team doing anything in the World Cup.
